I am looking forward to meeting Lottie  I haven't a clue what she looks like so hope she introduces herself

We have been very busy trying to make the garden look reasonable but I must say it has been a horrid gardening year  Most of my pots of Lilies succumbed to that Lily leaf disease and it did affect the flowers as well ,my Cues have the measles(powdery mildew) which has been sprayed with milk, some peppers and chillies still look awful and plants that should be in flower by now aren't  This week

I have made 2 Lemon Drizzle cakes,2 Choccie cakes,2 Apple cakes and 2 Coffee and Walnut cakes - they are in the freezer and tomorrow I will be making 2 Victoria sponges,36 Cup cakes and 4 dozen scones  My DIL's Mum is making a Choccie cake and a Coffee and Walnut cake for me,too  - just hope our visitors want tea and cake  All the proceeds from the Teas will be going to a small charity called Breakaway-visits - my urostomy nurse told me about them

Blackbirds

Posted: 20/07/2012 at 19:52

When I was in our local Homebase garden centre yesterday  I was looking at some boxes of bedding and saw a blackbird fly onto the shelving with something in her mouth, then she told me off and flew out . I had a quick peep and found a half built nest in a box of begonias

When I used to work in the same garden centre we always had a Robins nest and Pied Wagtails nest somewhere in the garden centre  Once there was a Bluetits nest inside a roll of wire netting

It looks a bit like a Camellia to me  Is the foliage glossy? when was it in flower and what shape were the flowers? Maybe Escallonia of some sort

Don't give up on them yet Jean - you may get some flowers at the end of the summer- they always flower late for me

Just had a quick look at Jessies Mini Garden  I think it is wonderful that you are encouraging your little one to garden - she will learn so much - not just about gardening. Jessie is a gorgeous little girl and lucky to have a Mum like you

At the end of the Summer (what summer?) if you would like to have a go at overwintering a few cuttings on your windowsill I will happily send you some
