Garden arches planting - help needed

Posted: 03/05/2012 at 05:53

I have Clematis on both our arches. By the front gate - Comtesse de Bouchard and in the back garden Etoile violette. Trachelospermum is evergreen with a gorgeous perfume but it may be too strong a grower for your arches.Clematis armandii is also evergreen but too rampant. If you didn't mind bare arches in winter Morning Glory and Cobaea scandens are wonderful for covering an arch.

Wintersong - it is sad to lose plants but as you say you now have a lovely new space to fill

We have sorted a few borders this year and I am pleased to have more planting spaces

I pricked out psb,Kale  and Primo cabbages today and also planted up some tubs

The NGS County organiser called this morning with all our posters etc. for our Open Day - makes me a feel a  bit nervous

I water my houseplants well but remove  any water that has collected in the bottom of the outer pot. Then I don't water again until the plant wilts a bit or the pot feels light and the compost dry on top  Maybe the roots aren't getting enough water
