Interloper?

Posted: 08/07/2013 at 16:19

Thanks ...I was afraid of this.  I wonder what happened to all the pepper seeds?  I suppose none of them germinated.  Ah well...off to uproot the intruders and chuck them in the green recycling bin for the council.  I don't want anymore in the compost!

Interloper?

Good Afternoon

A couple of months ago I carefully planted some seeds - Chilli peppers-Red Demon.  I waited patiently for them to peep out from their little pots and then lovingly potted them on.  They are nurtered in the greenhouse and have grown tall and strong, as have all my other pepper plants, many of which are showing fruits.

BUT.....I am beginning to realise that these plants are not what I expected...they have flowered, one white and one yellow, but not the slightest indication of anything like a pepper!   I would like confirmation that I have been duped, mislead and even tricked into aiding and abetting WEEDS!!

Please tell me it's not so.....

Hole in my courgette

One of the other courgettes on the same plant is lovely and fat and going a lovely golden colour so I'll keep my fingers crossed.  Thanks for replies.

Could it be that the flower was pulled off too quickly?  This courgette plant is in a pot and the others courgettes are coming on nicely. This is a golden courgette.

If not the flower, what else is it likely to be?

Thanks for comments.  Though my garden is mainly pots and raised beds, I do have a little bit of border so I'll throw the seed on it in a shady spot.  I have light sandy soil (Montrose is a coastal town) but I have fed it regularly and after 8 years I finally have worms!!   Do they (the plants ....not the worms!q) like any particular soil?  I have no idea what sort they are - small and multicoloured is the best I can do.

My aquilegia has only grown to 12", but flowered and now has seed heads.  Should I collect these and if so, when should I sow them. In greenhouse or outdoors?  My garden is a pot garden - is this why my aquilegia didn't grow as tall as others I've seen?  Any advice valued.

S'ok. Just looked at the link that Dovefromabove gave.  They apparently can harm gardens that have fruit bushes as they eat the sap and weaken the plant.  Only fruit I have is strawberries and an apple tree that has never produced any fruit in the three years I've had it so I'm not going to do anything.  Thaks for the link, Dove.

I too remember these from many years ago - we used to find them on loads ofplants but hadn't seem them forages.  Now I've got them on my lavender bushes but not too many. I'll leave them alone since the concensus seems to be that they are harmless.  What exactly are froghoppers and what do they eat when adult?

Wow! That was fast. Thank so much. I've had a look at the link you sent and I will remember not to move him on using my finger!  I've never come across him before.  Appartently it eats woodlice - are theygood or bad for the garden?  I am a new amateur gardener and obviously have lots to learn.
