Over wintering

Posted: 15/09/2013 at 17:09

I found a seedling in the garden at our house when we moved in so put it in a large terracotta pot.  It has lived outside very happily in the pot for the last six years.  I have probably fed it once a year at most.  This is in Scotland, so I wouldn't worry about yours!

What to do with your produce

This year I have made:  pesto with basil/parsley and I have frozen parsley and basil in sandwich bags- it crumbles into sauces etc straight from the freezer.  I've also made jams/cheeses (blackberry and gooseberry cheese has been good this year).

We've had a glut of corgettes and tomatoes this year so have had roasted, fried and chargrilled corgettes (with chilli, mint and basil garnish ...mmmm), corgette cake, 'coleslaw' made with grated corgette, carrot and apple mixed with plain yoghurt and a bit of parsley.

Tomatoes...roasted, microwaved and on toast, but mostly just raw with a sprinkle of salt and pepper and some basil.

Hi Gardengirl,

I would love some Mallow and some small scabious please?  I'll pm you my address and pop yours in the post tomorrow.

Thanks

Diddy, the scabious is gardengirl's not mine... nothing new to add from me I'm afraid.

Confession... I've forgotten to put my name on the seeds I have posted so if you get a mystery package it could be from me! Seeds wrapped in kitchen roll then a little bag with holes in.

Hi Diddy,

Can I swap you for some Echinacea and some Sea Holly?  I had Sea Holly in my wedding bouquet at Easter and my husband had it in his buttonhole - it would be amazing to have some in our garden!

Is there a'normal' amount of seeds to send?  I would hate to be rude by mistake!

I'll try and pm you too.

thanks

Stacey, the cosmos is mostly a fantastic vibrant pink though there may be some pale pink too.  I think I collected seeds from both but they have been drying for a while and I can't remember.  It all either grew from seeds I collected last year or from self sets in the drive!

I would love to swap for some of the buckland astrantia.

How does this work? How many seeds do we send? L plates on!

Get it off your chest

Hi gardeningfanatic,

If you go to the top right of your screen, there's a menu next to your name.  Click on 'my settings' then scroll down to forum settings and you can get it to open threads at the last page.  It actually opens the last full page but that's close enough.

Hope this is what you meant
