Not done anything in the garden today as too busy, but looking out of the window my poor plants are getting another battering from the wind. Was hoping to get out there tomorrow but weather forecast not good at all. Rain rain and more rain. See what tomorrow brings.

Had some rain and more to come I'm sure by the look of the sky. Hatches battened !
The label on the freesias said they were now easier to grow than they were, so fingers crossed. I have put them in a pot so could put them somewhere warmer over winter if I had to. I had freesias asmy wedding bouquet a long time ago and have always loved them. Will let you know How they fair.
I have a pink scabious which is flowering lovely but never grown a white one. Looksa a bit more robust than the pink one. Will have to find a home for it soon. Impulse buys !!!!!

I had a youg blackbird sat in the bird bath yesterday. It had a good bathe and then just sat there with its bum in the water for ages, so sweet.

I bought an alstroemeria yesterday and planted it today in a nice pot. I had one a couple of years ago but it died over winter. Hopefully this one will last a bit longer.

Nice morning here in Bristol but very windy. Clouded over now and looks like rain. Bought some more plants yesterday so spent the morning planting an alstromeria,4 cosmos to fill a few gaps and a freesia. Never grown freesias before so hope it takes ok. Smells wonderful. Also bought a day lily and a white scabious, but still deciding where to put them.

Most definatly should have squidged those lily beetles ! My lillies not doing too well this year, I think the slugs have nibbled the buds, they all look stunted !

Hi everyone. Had a nice day here in Bristol. Spent a lovely couple of hours pottering this afternoon. Pulled out loads of forget me nots.....and weeds !! Planted 3 ferns and an acer. My poor foxgloves were nearly all horizontal after those high winds, and two snapped off. I am just the same Shrinking violet, I cannot pull out and dispose of self seeders. I have dozens of verbena bonariensis, even growing in cracks in the paving !

Talkback: Unpleasant plant smells

I love the smell of lillies and cordyline australis flowers, but my husband hates them. The smell irritates his nose so much we had to get rid of the cordyline. I refuse to get rid of my lillies tho. You could smell the cordyline flower in the house if the doors or windows were open. Hubbys not too happy tho as next door neighbour has planted one quite close to our fence, so he will not be able to get away from it !
