Heating the greenhouse

Blairs: so I wasn't so silly about a sunken greenhouse then?

If it has a solid floor will it need drainage?

Using the sun is the best way but no use during winter. Having the greenhouse in full sun and dug about 1 metre into the ground surrounded by stone chippings, having the floor tiled all retain heat and use the earths heat. A thermostatic fan heater will then keep the heat around the greenhouse.

Blairs, could you give a little more info 'dug about 1m into the ground surrounded by stone chippings'.  At the moment I'm visulising a sunken greenhouse!  Can't think thats what you mean.  Only ask as I am getting a greenhouse this year and am trying to gather as much info as pos so I get the right base laid.  Thanks.

Don't go away folks. I'd be lonely now without you all.

Just ignore the crap. I do

My sentiments too.  I'm fairly new to the forum & have been really enjoying the experience.  I would be disappointed if people stopped using this forum.  I have learned so much in a short time and with a few giggles too.

Thanks holly hock,  will give that a try.  Did try researching online but had now luck finding info on sowing lupin seeds so just took a gamble.  If it doesn't work out there's always next year!

I planted some lupin seeds, saved from the plants in my garden.  I have put one seed in each small pot.  Not sure where to put the pots, ie in a properator, outside, inside, in a sunny position?  Please would someone share their knowledge.  Thanks

Thanks, your advice is much appreciated, Frank and Brumbull.  Looks like my list of gardening jobs is growing  (pardon the pun!) but I'll look forward to getting them done (unlike the household chores).

Bamboo taking over the world.... Okay, garden.

Can you suggest any that would grow quickly, please?  I was thinking of doing a similar thing by putting bamboo in a container (haven't seen last nights GW yet). I would like a plant to go against a fence in a sheltered corner in order to gain some privacy, so would need to reach about 9ft.

Excuse me jumping in here - I am also wanting to improve my lawn and just wondered if George could share any knowledge of leveling a lawn.  Mine is a bit 'bumpy', it has dips/hollows.  Not major but the mower doesn't roll smoothly over it

Brilliant picture BTB - I have only recently begun to appreciate how facinating the night sky is - would love to get a telescope.
