Lizzie, good job you have the wood burners.

Becks - nice pictures!

We have no snow here. I am a soft southerner!

Sorry Dove, forgot to say - what a horrendous journey! Don't blame you for staying home today. A friend of mine has been living in Tunisia for a number of years and has just moved back to the UK - to Norwich. I think she's in shock at the moment!

Morning all. No snow here but thick frost - if a frost can be thick! Lots of icy patches on the roads. Had to give the chickens some lukewarm water this morning. Token (the black one) was first out the house as usual - and first to the food.

Snow is forecast for the weekend here, but not much. Even the BBC forecast mentions snow.

I had a planning meeting last night for Cubs, and this term we will be looking at recycling, the environment, composting, and having a 'raingutter regatta', among other things. We will also be making Valentines sweets so if anyone has any simple recipes, please send them my way!

Maud, they say on the programmes that deal with cowboy builders that you should get recommendations from other customers - do you know anyone else in your area who has had this type of work done? That might help.

My next door neighbour is a builder, but I wouldn't recommend him!!

I would like to go and see Les Mis, but my cinema buddy is a bit emotionally delicate at the moment - would she cope??

Just going to have lunch now - bowl of soup and crusty bread. Then I might have to nip to the post office - but I'll drive! Its too cold out there to walk - plus I need to go and get chicken food as well.

Hope some of that cake ends up in my cyber-locker as well!

Chris, radiator paint is horrible stuff....speaking from experience!

Lots of talk of cake baking on here! I use the all in one method. Take 2 eggs, weigh them, add same quantities of SR flour, butter, sugar, and half teasp of baking powder. Put it all in the mixer, mix till smooth, split between 2 sandwich tins, bake at 175. When done, sandwich together with jam or buttercream or both. If you want to make a chocolate cake substitute 1 tablespoon of the flour for cocoa powder.

Becks, I think your problem of sinking cakes is caused by the tin. If you're cooking that quantity in one tin it needs a lower temp and longer baking time - or the outside will be done and the middle not done. So Pam's idea of putting half in the tin is an excellent one. Or go to the £ shop and get 2 shallower tins! We all need to know how you get on now!

Sunny here at the moment and not even that cold. Slight covering of ice on the car windscreen this morning but no frost on the ground. However weather for the next few days is for lots of cold (below zero).

Geoff, have you gone off to play with the orange balls?

Geoff, am not sure. Either Tuesday or Sunday would be better than Monday!

Jean, what an amazing plant!

Snow has turned to rain now.

I was thinking about it! Maybe it realised that - spooky!

Snowing here at the moment but its not that cold so its not sticking - even though its coming down quite fast.

Tomorrow looks like it will be colder than today, will have to think about thermals then!

Just having the second coffee of the morning.

Have checked the forecast and its not much warmer in Spain (the bit I want to go to) than it is here at the moment. I know they do have the occasional frost there - but at least you're guaranteed a summer!

As Pam says, we have a dusting of snow here and its actually trying to snow a bit at the moment, but the roads are clear, so there was no problem getting to work this morning other than traffic.

I like the sound of a man who does cooking!

Up the wooden hill and into blanket bay, my Dad used to say.
