I'm in Sussex and my garden is quite exposed. My aunt has a huge garden and to be honest not sure where her abutilons are. will have to ask. Is now an OK time to move them as I think probably they are too exposed? Can I save the one that looks like it's dying?

I was given two Abutilons by my aunt who lives in Northern Ireland and has them in her garden. They were young plants and I planted them out into my garden in the spring. They have been growing very well and one of them is still doing well but the other has turned yellow and seems to be dying. It's now about 6ft tall.  I now read they don't do well in gardens so am confused. I don't have a greenhouse. Can I dig up the dying one or should I leave well alone?

Pale courgettes

One of my courgette plants is producing a prolific number of courgettes but either they are withering at the end or they are very pale. What's going on with them?

Not seen any colour yet, as only one little flower appeared this year. I moved in last year and they were all flopped over but I thought they'd already flowered. Now I think probably they haven't for several years.

That's really helpful thanks. I did wonder about the competition with the tree. I'll do both, move a big chunk of them and mulch. thanks so much.

I have a large clump of Iris Sibirica under a small maple. This is my first summer in this garden but they have all flopped out from the tree and only one (in a huge clump) flowered in June. Are they leaning towards the sun, or not enough water or what? Should I move them or at least take out clumps and put elsehwere? Can they stand full sun or are they happier in shade? (Sorry, lots of questions!)

What's eaten my rose?

Hi Sunny, thanks for this. The stems aren't going, just the leaves so maybe sawfly I suppose. I've looked around it for the larvae but can't see them so not sure where they hide in the day. Blighters came back last night and took even more. It looks very odd now just with six leaves and a bud at the stop of one stem! good idea to lift it and put in pot. I will definitely do that and give it some TLC for a few days and hope it recovers. It is Warm Wishes, a hybrid tea. I have a number of roses and yet this is the only one that's being attacked. So hope they don't get to the others!

I've never seen deer around here or sign of them (no droppings or footprints) so don't think it was deer but I suppose could be. The leaves aren't dropping they are definitely being eaten as you can see the tiny remains of them on the stems. Two whole stems were eaten in one night! Luckily one stem still remains and has a bud so hopefully it will survive!

Thanks Lavender and Dove. I have other roses and so far (fingers crossed as I have two Mme Alfred Carriere amongst others) haven't been touched. Plenty of blue tits (about 10 young fledglings!) and zillions of other birds here too so would hope caterpillars wouldn't last long but who knows.

Is there nothing I can do to protect roses from such a hoard of hooligans?
