Wilting Laurels
Hi nut cutlet because they were solid and dry.I have checked the soil it feels damp, there's small pebbles over the soil. Its rained in Scarborough today I was hoping that they would maybe perk up,wishful thinking !
I will cut back slightly tomorrow do you think that things are still dormant with the poor weather.
Regards

I bought twelve root balled laurels approx 6 weeks ago to make a hedge. The soil around the root was so solid due to the cold weather ,I carefully removed the hard soil, planting the bare roots in good shrub compost. For a week the plants looked healthy, then one by one the leafs appear to be wilting with some brown patches on some of the leaves. How often should I water. It has been very cold, windy and dry in Scarborough so could this be the reason. Please advise on best course of action.

Thanks everyone for you good ideas. When I can work out how to upload pictures to this site using my iPad will post. However the gardening has come to a stop due to the snow. It's pretty bad in Scarborough.
Thanks again

I have a border which is 4feet x 12feet.There is a bank that drops from the border into a beck. The other side of the beck goes onto a farmers field, often used for dog walkers. I have just bought two decent size laurels,a holly to act as screening. I have also bought a couple of dogwoods red colour to go at the front.Any ideas to fill up the border.I was thinking of chrocrosmia . I would be grateful if Anyone can advise .I can post a photo if needed. Thanks

Thanks for the advice. How far back would you cut .It now stands approx three feet. Do I cut below a leaf? I'm completey new to gardening with plants. Having just moved into new house,I have been too adventurous digging up a very big border and starting with my own ideas.I was wanting the virburnum to act as a frame in the back of the border.Could you advise me on what would give the border some structure.I can send you a photo if this helps.
Thanks

I have put in two virburnum opulus in my garden border two months ago . Both looked as though they had taken well.in the last few weeks one has wilted . I have kept them well watered. The border is open to the elements, we sometimes have strong winds. ( North Yorkshire coast line) Should I cut it back Now ?
