Thanks for the reply.....yes the escallonias are nice but would ideally prefer something more neat and uniform. If I were to go for conifers it would be the slimmer variety not to impede to much on the garden. What was there previous was definitely higher than would have been allowed and full of thorns! I think my main concern is would/could they damage property?

Any advice please.....am about to tip out very messy garden in house just purchased.....am keen to put up some screening at the back for privacy....would like something ideally around 12ft high...my gardener advised against conifers as garden is only approx 45ft and roots could cause problems.....is the laurel a good alternative? I would need something evergreen and fast growing...thanks in advance.
