That's a good point, that photo is just what I need. It is a bit sparse around the pond as I have mostly perennials. Can you suggest what else I could plant? The soil is clay.

ive had a pond for about 4 years but no frogs have been! Annoyingly I spotted a toad in my garden before I had the pond put in! It's a ready made pond but I have made pebble steps in it and it has aquatic plants in pots. My mum has similar pond and got frogs pretty quickly. What am I doing wrong?

How to dig up large shrub roots

Any tips on how to dig/get rid of old shrub roots? It's an old hebe stump , I've tried to loosen soil around it but I only managed half an hour before I realised that I wasn't getting anywhere🙄. I'm exhausted!

Hi everyone, my mum bought me a hawthorn tree for my birthday which is being delivered tomorrow. So excited! I've dug in horticultural grit and farmyard manure, is there anything else I need to do before I get it planted?  Can I under plant at the same time?

Privacy problems

Morning, I have a similar problem to you except I don't have a bed outside of the fence, just a public pavement. And like you I want plants that grow taller than the fence and wide too since there is a lot to cover. I agree with Dove From Above, you could have trellis or have you considered bamboo. I suppose it depends on what look you're after. I'm going to plant a hawthorn tree and lots of climbers and pyracantha as they are nice and prickly!!!!

Wow thank you for all those suggestions and advice,I'm spoilt for choice🤔. I'm on a corner plot, quite a wide garden so a tree that doesnt grow massive wouldnt affect the neighbour on left side of us,  the other side of the fence is grass verge and pavement. I'm not planting a tree right next to the fence but about 2/3 ft away from it. I suppose when I say good for wildlife I mean something that does everything through the seasons!
