Privacy problems

Posted: 30/01/2017 at 10:40

Morning, I have a similar problem to you except I don't have a bed outside of the fence, just a public pavement. And like you I want plants that grow taller than the fence and wide too since there is a lot to cover. I agree with Dove From Above, you could have trellis or have you considered bamboo. I suppose it depends on what look you're after. I'm going to plant a hawthorn tree and lots of climbers and pyracantha as they are nice and prickly!!!!

Aww thank you. I think I'm going to go for the hawthorn. Sooooo excited!😊. Thank you again for all your advice.

Wow thank you for all those suggestions and advice,I'm spoilt for choice🤔. I'm on a corner plot, quite a wide garden so a tree that doesnt grow massive wouldnt affect the neighbour on left side of us,  the other side of the fence is grass verge and pavement. I'm not planting a tree right next to the fence but about 2/3 ft away from it. I suppose when I say good for wildlife I mean something that does everything through the seasons!

Thank you to both of you. I have been considering the crab apple,I might look at the gelder rose too, Have a lot of ugly fence to hide.😊. Are they suitable for clay soil?

I want to add some height to my garden and encourage more wildlife. I'm looking for a smallish tree that will tolerate clay soil on a south west facing garden. Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

Do all hardy geraniums have that horrible smell when you touch them? Can you get any that don't??

Can I move an evergreen clematis that is growing up an obelisk? It needs a bigger obelisk and its in the wrong place for me. Many thanks🙂

Floppy dogwood

My red dogwood has gone floppy, some of the stems have broken off, some of the leaves are brown and it's just looks so weak. I've had it about 3 or 4 years, I cut it back hard every year and it usually does so well. Has anyone else had this problem?

I'm fed up with the neighbours cat using my beloved garden as its toilet and killing the birds that try to visit the bird table. Its putting me off going out there. Can anyone recommend a  deterrent?
