Talkback: Learning from 2012

Posted: 09/01/2013 at 22:10

After the miserable weather we had in 2012, we said we would only concentrate on things that did well in the wet. Broad beans, runner beans, salads and early potatoes, but as spring approaches we will no doubt be saying" I think we'll give so and so a try again" we usually do. All our fruit, both soft and apples etc did well,  so let's hope for a drier year and more crops. I think we will need to be growing as much as possible to try to save money!

We have got a Peregrine Peach, but have not had a lot of success so far, either the frost has got the blossom or it has been stricken with leaf curl. The few fruits that did set, then dropped off, but maybe this year.......

Purple sprouting broccoli is looking good so far.

Hi Becks.

I have had Ringtons tea for the past 20 years, very reputable company, nice delivery people and good quality. As you say a bit on the pricey side, but I have my tea delivered every fortnight and if I'm not in he will leave it for me and I pay him next time. Very scrummy biscuits and cakes as well. I have never been hassled by them and don't get any phone calls etc.

Yes it's getting colder here in Lincoln too, just pleased we haven't got the heat that they have in Australia. I couldn't cope with 45C  and the fear of losing you home etc  is just awful. I have got relatives in Melbourne and at the moment they are ok.

Do you think John Mc has got a hope in hell of getting £3m?  be interesting to see the outcome.

Time for a cuppa and a biccky, no chocolate fingers but we have got some Cadburys assortment to be opened, I will try to resist.

Morning Folks.

It's a lovely sunny day here Hope all are well.

We enjoyed Quartet, Maggies Smith was, as ever, brilliant, as were all the cast, very well done and so poignant. Nice music as well if your into light classical.

Well done FloGoldFairy, not easy to lose the extra pounds after Christmas, I've just got back to my pre Christmas weight just cutting out the extras. Big pan of vegetable soup on the go this morning

Sorry you have had some more bad news Dove.Let's hope things get better for you from now on.

Geoff and Becks, I'm with you on the late dressing bit. When the weather is grotty not a lot to rush for, but I'm always afraid someone will come to the door and think I'm a right lazy beggar. Why it should bother me I don't know I've done my share of early mornings.

Have a good day folks, whatever you're up to.

Morning everyone.

Hope everyone is feeling perky this morning. Good news, Dove, that your family is safe, but what an awful thing to  go through, sympathies to all.~~~~~~

We watched Mrs Brown, find her/him extremely funny, just wish he would moderate the language, too many Fs, would be just as good with fewer. Just love it when they get the giggles.

Not a very nice morning here, dull and damp, hope it improves later.

Got a fairly busy day. Hairdressers a 1.30 then off to see M, back for early tea, then going to cinema with SIL and friend to see Quartet.  Phew! might fit in a few jobs in between. Feel a bit like Jo.

Catch you later.

Chris.

Arhh Geoff , cheer up chicken it must be a wrench to put your house on the market even though you are looking forward to an exciting new life in Spain.

Lots of grunting and muttering coming from spare bedroom. OH is putting doors back on wardrobe. We have to dismantle it to move it, it's so heavy On side of room finished, start on other side tomorrow. We have to do it in sections as we have nowhere to put the furniture.

I like Dunelm Mill, you can get almost anything in the household line there at very reasonable prices, I'm always popping in.

Like the customised wheelbarrows.

Hope you have got a good excuse Geoff, and everything is OK.

Sorry you've got poorly eyes Glyn, take care.

Chris.

What's the weather like in your area?

He must be all behind

Just spent an entertaining half hour entering all my tesco rewards voucher number on their website to claim Euro Tunnel vouchers took ages, but at least we have got a return journey for nothing, helps towards holiday costs

I don't have a wheelbarrow but OH lets me borrow his. It's used for everything from moving compost, moving heavy pots and occasionally for building projects, it's an essential at our place. Just a bog standard builders barrow, nowt fancy here.

Now going to get some lunch, cheese and onion bap with tomato soup me thinks.

See you later.

Chris

Good morning everyone.

Hope poorly peeps are feeling better this morning

Weather dismal again so not much going on outside.OH has taken the car into the garage for a servicing, more expense! then we will get on with the decorating. I say we in the royal sense, I just supervise and make tea and generally clean up after him. He's not the tidiest worker in the world, but at least he will do it.

Have a nice day folks.

Chris.
