Squash or Gourds ?

Posted: 08/10/2012 at 13:21

This year I have grown what I thought were squash, but as they have developed I'm not sure now. The seed company must have got the seed wrong. I dont mind but they are nothing like I have had before. They should have been butternut squash,

To look at they started growing as pattypans , instead of scalloped  they have like a curved hook in the nippedin bit of the scallop. They are a solid squash/gourd and yellow and green and about 4 inches across. Very decorative. I will try and get a photo  uploaded. But not sure how to go about it but will experiment this evening.

Help with melons neede please

What not to use are the nets that I was given which came with the caterers packs of dried peas. My sister thought these would work , I tried them and my fruit rotted - they could not breath me thinks .The hairnets idea sounds good I am trying that this year!

I bought  plants from B&Q last year "chocolate"  this gave me  "chocolate" then  before I could use a ny more they started turning green to red  .With leaving on the plant longer The green to reds gave  a much fleshier pepper (capsicum) . though this may have been due to   the blood fish and bone when I eventuly repotted  and lots of water - who knows?

I've bought a Kangeroo Paws plant- but know nothing about them, for outside?

A BIG  THANK YOU to both  friends above, I have  a sandy peaty soil so this should suit my plant   I cannot imagine it should ever be big enough for a lawnmower prune, but one can live in hope!

You have both given me lots of good information , I will now scour the internet for appropiate food.
