Paving or shingle - please help if you can

Posted: 10/05/2012 at 15:02

Thankyou s much Rushie, I have printed this out so that I can remember the measurements of the sand etc. My neighbour has kindly said I can raid his pile of builders sand at the bottom of his  garden and has been to his friends and broughorm t me a bag of cement back with him -  how kind  is that? I just need some legnths of wood now to form the shape and to level it off and I'm done......... Can I ask you how long it will take to set as I dont want to build the shed and it to sink into the mixture......

Talkback: Slugs and snails and pussycat tails

@Unity, The newspaper works untill it rains!! Then it is soggy and no good. I use some old carpet and cut it to go round my pots and this works although next year I'll be planting in hanging baskets as they look beautiful............With regards to slugs/snails etc we have a garden hedged with Laurel, approx 30feet high, Not sure why but when we moved in there wasnt an inch of bark to be seen, it was covered top to bottom in snails of all shapes/colours and sizes. We went out the same night armed with a bucket and torch to collect them and deposit them in the woods over the road and lo and behold there wasn't a critter to be seen on the laurel.................they were covering the lawn, paths and pots scattered around the garden...........there were hundreds if not thousands of them. We collected them up over a few weeks and took them to the woods, we dont have a problem really with them now, maybe one or two hidden under the rim of the odd pot ...........maybe we have done them a favour and they have all found a happpy home and something nicer to eat in the woods............

hahahaha, how often do you water your plants that have this gel in them, I feel I may also be overwatering?

Hi Supernanny, I just put a very small amount, about 20g,  mixed in with the compost and perlite to help drainage and this seems to be enough, I did read the packet but it didnt advise about baskets so used my initiative............However the first time I tried it went a bit pete tong......put too much in and when it rained all this gelitinous gunge came pouring out of my tubs............oh well I lived to tell the tale......good luck xx

Paving or shingle - please help if you can

Posted: 10/05/2012 at 12:12

Please can you help. I am just re-designing my side garden and am putting a potting shed up. I haven't a lot of money    and have been advised to lay the shed on paving however I have a large builders bag of pea gravel/shingle left over from another part of the garden and wandered if I would be able to lay my shed on this? Any support you can offer would be really appreciated........

Talkback: Cats in the garden

Posted: 05/05/2012 at 12:56

toCatlover.........

I tHink its awful that you are a 'Dog Hater' and tar all us dog lovers with the same brush.............I have three small jack russels - beautiful dogs, and great company. I and my family always clean up after our dogs but you will always get the ones that dont - thats life I'm afraid and the  local councils should do more to enforce it. But Cats............they are left to wander at their leisure destroying peoples pride and joy, messing all over other folks gardens - its a disgrace. How do you know your cat always comes home to use the litter tray ? does it need the toilet and think ''ooh must get home and use the litter tray I won't do it in someone elses garden?'' Don't be so naive.....of course when your cats out and about and it needs to do its business it will do it wherever it wants to the outrage and upset of one of your neighbours...its disgusting. At least I know my dogs are in the house and when they are out they are with a member of my family who cleans up after them...............the next time my neighbours cat does anything in my garden I am going to politely parcel it up and hand it to her with a sweet smile on my face.............if people started doing this to you and you were faced with a parcel of your cats disgusting mess you might think twice about letting it wander your neighbourhood at leisure  and destroying everyones hard work and their pleasure, not to mention the poor kids that stand and fall into it or even worse, dig up what your 'pet' has left them in their garden.................one word..............DISGUSTING!!!
