Advice needed please!

Posted: 30/06/2015 at 16:32

This is one of the dwarf french beans and the following is of the actual beds with 3 courgettes which have also stopped growing.

The next one is of radish and mixed salad leaves

The top soil was supplied by the gardener who made the beds so I'm not sure where it came from, but I would have thought it was from somewhere that he uses regularly.

It hasn't been tested for pH.  I could get a kit and see what that says.

Advice needed please!

We've recently had some new raised beds made and filled with top soil and my problem is that my veg don't seem to be growing!

My second lot of dwarf beans have grown to the same size of the first lot (about 3") and stopped.  My lettuce and mixed salad leaves have just about shown their heads through the soil and stayed where they are for the past few weeks and even the radish and courgettes don't seem to be growing.  My runner beans planted in the ground seem to be doing fine.

Can anyone give me some helpful advice please?!

Veg plants dying

Thank you all.

I admit, I didn't harden them off properly.  I'll know better next year. I just hope the courgettes survive as only one or two leaves have gone off So far. Is it too late to plant seeds in the ground?

A couple of weeks ago I put some dwarf bean plants out in the garden which I had raised from seed in our conservatory.  Within a day or two the leaves started losing their colour and going silvery.  They eventually died so I started some more off in the garden.

Yesterday I planted 3 courgette plants and now they've started doing the same!

Do you think it's because they've been too warm in the conservatory?  Other than that I can't think why it's happening. We are in the process of putting a new greenhouse up so that's why I've had to grow them in there.

I hope someone can help me with some advice please.

Small Potatoes

I agree with you Claire.  I dug some earlies up the other day and there were about 3 tiny potatoes on each plant.  My beans and courgettes are suffering too!

I don't know if this is any help Jean but my snowball bush had a low growing branch which rooted in the ground like a strawberry runner.  I then cut it off and transplanted it elsewhere in the garden and is now growing quite happily.  Not sure if you can do this with a sucker though.

Thanks Pam and Kate.

I've had a look at the roots and they seem healthy enough.  I'm sure if I went back to the supplier they will say it's something I've done (which it probably is).

I did repot them and at first they were fine, but it seems to be a gradual process.  I'm not one to overwater so I'm perplexed as to why it's happening.  I'll just have to do my best to try and save them.

Yes, it is Celia Smedley Pam. Don't know why I put Alice. I must have been having a brain block.

No, they are still inside at the moment. They are trailing "Coachman" and upright "Alice Smedley". I've never had problems with fuchsias before and just hoping they haven't got some disease.

Can anyone help with my problem please? I bought 4 small young fuchsia plants from a show in April and now they are starting to lose their leaves.  The stems are gradually going brown from the bottom upwards and when it is getting to where the leaves join they are starting to drop.  I've searched on the net and can't find any answers so I hope some of you knowledgeable gardeners may be able to help?
