Thank you both, will have a go at growing the seedlings on. It's fairly mild all year round down here so the may have a chance, and the bees deserve as much help as possible. Def not a Victorian maiden, lol!

My mother-in-law gave me some sowed Brugmansia seeds that she got in Florida. I live in South Devon and I'm wondering if these semi-tropical plants would survive here. Also, I have read they are deadly poisonous so should I even consider growing them? I don't have any kids or pets, but I do see hedgehogs in the garden.

Any help/advice would be very welcome.

Thank you,

Talkback: Where have all the hedgehogs gone?

Happy to report that we have loads of hedgies this year. Noticed one or two last year so decided to try feeding them this year. We now have a very large 'Daddy' hog, several medium sized and a couple of smaller ones. I have read somewhere that if you see several then you probably have loads more. I feed them small beef flavour cat biccies and peanuts, topping them up several times a night. I've bought a hedgehog house but have no idea if they are using it as you mustn't disturb it once in place. We too cut holes in our new fence. They aren't going to bed yet- too warm in Devon.

Hi, I've just had the 'men from the Council'  with a 3 ft chain saw destroying the other side of my hedge!! I now have huge gaps and would like any recommendations for a very fast-growing perennial climber to help with filling them. They have totally destroyed my privacy and killed a lot of bird friendly bush - I could swing for them.

Thanks in advance
