Hardy geranium seeds not germinating

Posted: 21/05/2014 at 17:46

I tried some in a cold frame and greenhouse this spring and only 3 germinated. I put the seed tray outside on the floor last week and left it alone and another 4 have popped up almost straight away. They seem happy to look after themselves.

spring onions

Posted: 16/05/2014 at 20:07

I have sown a white and a red spring onion this year and they germinated very well here with two lovely full rows. I don't know whether they are particularly slow or not though, but I am awaiting them in anticipation. My parsnips and peppers however took weeks and weeks, but I left them alone and they've decided to show now. It might just be the hot/cold weather we've had so far this spring.

what's wrong with my peas?

This happened to my sunflowers last year, because I grew them inside in low light before popping them outside. They grew ok in the end, but I had to make sure they had lots of support the weight of the flower heads. I think your peas will be fine.

Is it in a pot, or the ground? Could it be a watering issue? Can you pop a picture on or give a bit more info?

Tomato plants ordered haven't arrived

Thanks for the update. I thought it was late May, but couldn't remember where I read it. Looking forward to them

My bird feeders are placed where I can enjoy watching...

It's certainly looks like a sorrel, but I don't know which one. I have a lot of sorrel in my front garden and it spreads like mad. I have found that the root snaps when I try to pull it out, but you can get it all out if you are careful.

I am not sure whether this is coming from the bird food though? I know mine was here before I started feeding the birds. Are you sure it's from the bird food?

Artjak is right if they don't like it they spit it out, I found when I bought a better quality mix, they spotted spitting it out everywhere.

What's wrong with my clematis? And what can I do?

Ooh that has answered my question flowering rose, I wanted to use garlic water on my seedlings to protect them from the almighty snails I have, but I am guessing this will harm the seedlings? (sorry for hijacking thread)

Could wind damage have caused the brown leaves on your Clematis? or the frost?

Getting rid of bamboo in tricky spot

Posted: 12/05/2014 at 14:36

Susan, glad you like the name .

We decided to be brave, and not use the chemicals, I just couldn't bring myself to do it. So we carefully removed the fence slats (so we can replace them later) and we chopped/sawed the bamboo down to about 1inch tall. We then carefully poured boiling water on the stumps and roots. Hoping this will work after a few goes.....

To be honest I don't think the landlord would notice if it was taken over completely by bamboo. When we moved in it was a jungle of Forsythia, Laurel and Snowberry.
