Can anyone tell me the best time to take Azalea cuttings. I fear I may be too late this year! Your advice would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I have a 10' tall Californian lilac tree which is getting very spindly, with the inner branches bare of growth. The outer branches are fine. Is it ideal to heavy trim back and, if so, what time of year should this be done. I wouldn't like to lose it as it is a feature.

Thank you for coming back. The problem is in the area of the garden which gets very lttle sun And it cannot be changed. Hydrangeas seem delighted with the site. We had to take out an old potentilla bush/tree which was dead and, since that time, we have had the problem! I have looked on YouTube without success.

The 'patch' tends to stay wet even on the hottest of days, as it is always in the shade. They seem to like this. Aghast to hear the roots can be metres deep!

I am trying to rid our garden of marestail and understand (looking on the internet) that applying lime to the plot may be helpful. They do not advise digging it out and the roots will travel further. it also suggests that ground cover may help. The patch is continually wet with very little drainage. Perhaps I am grasping at straws in trying to get rid of it. We have recently planted fuscia bushes and lilies in the area, unsuspectingly. These will be lifted and put into large planters at the end of the season and checked thoroughly before transplantation next year. I have no wish to propagate this menace further! Thanks for any advice.

Can anyone advise me when it is the best time to take fuschia cuttings for planting in the garden next year? I know the technique of how to take cuttings but it is the timing I am concerned about.

Can I use vermiculite instead of grit?

Hi. I have two lovely tree peonies and wondered if anyone had tried growing new ones from seeds. Last autumn I had a glut of black seeds which were very hard 'cased' and wondered if these had to be scored to help germination.

I have tried hard today to buy a hog house. Unfortunately, they only seem to be available via the web. Can anyone suggest the best type of hog house to look for and where to buy it? There are so many different ones to chlose from. I have also been told that it is critical that the doorway is the right size, some apparently are too small. Is it essential that they have hanged lids for cleaning after the hog(s) vacate it? I would appreciate any help.

Found a hibernating hog under a bush early this spring when sorting out the pruning. I hasten to say that pruning was halted until it came out of hibernation! I am going to buy a hog house today and, hopefully, he will return this autumn. I will place the 'house' as close a possible to the bush it used before. There are signs of at least one around our garden and I suspect there are some hoglets looking at the poo. Fingers crossed.

I have evidence of hogs in my garden and was putting out water regularly. However, the water also attracted rats! We have put out rat poison, under plants pots and concrete slabs so other wild life are unable to get to it. Have others experienced this?

They are the size of a cherry but do taste like a plum. The stone looks as though it could be whitish and the same size as cherries. Very sweet and juicy. Hope this pic helps. Thanks again for your help.
