Sowing tomatoes cold greenhouse

Posted: 11/04/2015 at 06:47
I live in the north beside the coast and cold is a big issue for me as I have a greenhouse in the front porch (unheated) and it gets far too cold for seedlings when the sun goes down. I generally start them off on my warm windowsill, when they get big enough to pot on they go into the greenhouse and fend for themselves, so everything is doing well, fingers crossed

I live in the north where it's too cold to put anything outside until well in the spring. I sow peas inside on windowsill then put out when weather permits and they never fail

Too early to chit?

My greatest success story are my potatoes'. They crop for me every year without fail and i never get any slugs or snails . I live in the North East it's usual cold well until May. I buy my seed potatoes from the pound shop believe it or not, and get a bumper, well tasting crop every year, last year it was Maris, this year it's Pentland. I plant middle of April, after the last frost in a raised bed, i leave them in their bags in my little patio greenhouse, and the just plop them straight in, and this seems to work well for me.

My dad has made me loads of these from wood lying around in skips and such. He just cuts them to fit in a square shape then nails them together. Bothering him to make a cold frame

Talkback: How to grow leeks from seed

I start my leeks off from seed in January, sow them in trays and place in window sill propgator till they get first true leaves then re-tray them and store on window sill until they can go in cold greenhouse, i don't even bother hardening them off, once all threat of frost has past they go into the plot, and stay there all year, we have em' for Xmas dinner
