Thanks all. I'm going to get a brass plaque now dedicating the garden to my dad. He like all types of flowers and was always planting something new.

I have three pot mums, one came out in the spring the other two are late summer. Are they frost tolerant or are they best taken indoors?

need tlc after a horrible summer

Hi all, I have not been in the garden much this summer. My dad was taken poorly at the beginning of June and sadly passed away on the 22nd July. So it has been a lot of travelling to  Norfolk from Scotland. I have had not much enthusiasm for the garden this summer. However I have started to tidy the garden now ready for autumn, back to reading my garden mags and books and catching up with what you lot are doing. My dad was a big amateur gardener and I miss our chats. Mum is bearing up and is off to hunstanton today with a friend. So looking forward now to next year's garden planning.

I think some seeds are a lot more expensive than they used to be. I know old faithful's are cheap, like 90 French marigold seeds for just under £3 because the majority are going to germinate. But if you want to try something new, £3 for a pack of seeds is quite expensive.

I have started buying my seeds now in the GC sale, has much as 75% off!

Have I overdone it?

I was of the understanding that the 'Potting Shed' was for non-specific chit-chat.

Some people live alone or have lost a partner and need to talk to or write to like minded people for comfort. I think the forum should fill honored that someone will bear there 'all' on a public website. This would be no different if we were all on an allotment together. Majority of chat will be horticultural, then you always get a person who takes you into their confidence and wants to share something private with you.

As a receiptant, this is called,' extending the hand of human kindness.' by listening

They use to do open days when there were in Aberdeen. They moved to a bigger plot a few years out near Banchory I think. Yes it's brilliant for us Scottish gardeners.

Verdict....your new plants this year

I was really pleased with my ornamental sage, I got it for a pound off the Homebase 'Death Row' shelf. Just needed a bit of TLC and WHOOSH! it went. Also grew swan river daises this year for the first time and was really pleased with their continuous flowering. They are ready for the compost now.

Failure: Red lobelia, very spindly, much prefer Crystal Palace. Mini sunflowers came and went far to quickly, I wont bother next year.
