Pound shop plants- any success stories?

Posted: 23/04/2014 at 12:59

Bought a 'hanging basket seed collection' from Home Bargains for 74p. The packet boasted, '6000' seeds! About a third germination and now only six plants made it finally to the hanging basket and are getting really big. So in the end, six plants for 74p! still a bargain. Cant tell you what their are, the packet got thrown away by mistake.

I never had any success with Poundland seeds. I have had success with Wilko seeds

What the best seeds for cut flowers

Hi, I see packets of seeds which say, 'these are good for cut flowers.'

Which seed company does the best in your option? and once you cut them, do the plants grow more flowers during the summer, or is that it?

What do you do or what did you do at work

Hi, Mike Allen's thread of where we are got me thinking about our jobs. We all share a common interest, but our work lives can/have be/been quite diverse.

I work in the oil and gas sector in Aberdeen. I work within a small team of a large oil support company. Will lay pipelines around the world linking oil rigs to the main land refineries. I work onshore supporting the Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) that do the work divers cannot go to due to sea depth.

Where are YOU?

Hi Mike, what other interests do you have apart from gardening? I'm an arts and crafts person myself, although I have not done much drawing and painting of late, hope to start again soon. Perhaps you can start a thread on the subject of 'other interests' we can all chat over. In the meantime pull up a stool, I'm buying!

Easter Weekend

Posted: 21/04/2014 at 21:58

Hi All

Well as the Easter weekend comes to a close I don't remember the last time we had four consecutive days of clear blue sky and lovely warm sunshine for an Easter like the one we have just witnessed here in the North-East of Scotland.

The GH has been at 40C every day, I took the thermometer out of the GH incase in broke! I have re-potted on 90 French marigolds, made up troughs and tubs with my other seedlings and two hanging baskets. All crammed in the GH waiting to go outside after the last frost, hopefully end of May.

I also managed to clear out the two raised flower beds on the patio, they still had last years silver dust around the borders. They normal die off in the winter, but this winter being mild have become quite invasive.

We have also had time to just sit in the garden and read over old gardening mags

Hope everyone else enjoyed some of the good weather too. How did your Easter plans go?

I wish you lived near me so we could have a right blether in the garden over a cup of tea, or something stronger

In the theater

A couple go into a sea food restaurant that serves up only rare sea creatures. The waiter points out in the tank a 'mild green squid' that has facial hair. The couple go for it and the waiter passes it to the kitchen staff.

There is a new chef at the restaurant named Gervais who does not like killing sea creatures, so the waiter asks Hans the dish washer if he fancies having a go. Hans looks the squid in the eye and bursts into tears.

The waiter then has to go through to the couple and explain why they cannot have there meal, because, 'Hans that does the dishes is as soft as Gervais when it comes to mild green hairy lip squid'.

There is this shark dragging this poorly looking octopus type creature behind him,

He swims up to another shark and says, Oi Charlie, here is that sick squid I owe you
