Buddleia Buzz cuttings

Hi, what do I do with the cuttings from last year? There is two long shoots in a V formation and plenty of growth at the bottom. Do I let the two long shoots grow to a desire height and nip out the growing tip to make them busy? I have the Buddleia Buzz

Cuttings - Pelagonium 'BlackMagic'

Hi Angela

I bring mine undercover, (up against the window in the garage) from end of October. Cut them right back and even move them to smaller pots, yes even trim the roots. A dusting of yellow sulphur should curb any grey mold

You need to put them to sleep, so not to hot 5C should be fine.

Then only water once a month, more but not a lot if needed. Just keep the soil damp. The end of March start to increase the water gradually and if not to cold start to bring them out into the light, or a greenhouse.

Are French Marigolds still in 'Vogue'?

Just asked my French colleague why they are called 'French Marigold' here is his answer:

'It comes from the Antilles – and in France is called Indian marigold because les Antilles were previously called the- orientates indies - ??

Here it is called French Marigold because French growers have worked the plants for centuries and developed many subspecies of it.'

Thanks Mike for your reassurance. My wife likes 'Queen Sofia' she make a nice display out the front with her 'Crystal Palace' lobelia.

I grow 'Motely Crew' around the back. No, that's not a new variety, it's all the seeds I have collected over the years. You never know what you are going to get!

Hi All

Oh well my wife and I are in the minority then  We'll just enjoy them ourselves. Although from what you are saying that explains why the seeds were in the sale

Not long now till spring, have a good gardening weekend, weather permitting

If French Marigolds were to hold a dinner party they would have prawn cocktails for starters and cherry trifle for desert. These were once the fashionable plants of the 70's. But were do they stand now? No mention in any gardening magazine articles. Yet these plants will with stand drought and flood. They self seed in abundance and are every so easy to germinate.

Apparently they have a scent that cats don't like and have been know to keep other nasty leaf munching insects away from other plants.

They are truly the 'Four Legged Friend' of the plant world, they will never let you down. I know this year will be the year of the Poppy, but lets not forget the French Marigold. I'll be sowing my four trays worth on the windowsills at the end of February.
