White pine rust

Posted: 18/09/2013 at 09:39

Very hard to treat since the spores are carried by wind, water and insects. I'm affected by rust and control it by removing any infected plant, as soon as I see it. I have a weed, Groundsel which appears to be a host plant. By keeping this weed in check minimises the damage to other plants.

Good housekeeping and cleaning/desinfecting of all tools and footware is very important too.

I also sow carrots in a 50/50 fine garden soil and sharp sand mix - all grow straight.....not, that it makes much difference, a carrot is a carrot regardless of shape.

These are called geophilomorph centipedes. Nothing to worry about and don't touch anything at the allotment - I've got loads myself in the soil.
