Cleaning pots or not

Posted: 10/06/2012 at 21:41

I have a black dustbin, the type we had before wheelie bins. It's filled with water and a good swig or 2 of jeyes fluid, I wash any pots/trays/cells that I'm going to use, then I soak them for 30mins. Taking no risks, I grow lots of plants.

I say yes, you should.

Too late to plant more seeds?

Parsnips can still be resown.

downy mildew

Posted: 09/06/2012 at 22:45

More likely powdery mildew, it gets my cucumbers every year but not for long though.

I found this recipe online and didn't believe it would work, but it does. Mix 50/50 water and ordinary cows milk together and pour into a sprayer. Spray the leaves. Repeat about 3 times. Does not keep, so mix a fresh batch each time.

I think the trick with this one is, spray at the first sign of an attack. And I haven't a clue why or how it works, but it does.

Product Recall - B&Q

Posted: 09/06/2012 at 22:29

If anyone has purchased a verve 42cm or 52cm propagator since December 2011. It must be returned to your nearest store for a full refund. During tests it has been found to overheat, therefore not safe to use.

I took mine back today !!

hanging baskets

Yes potteries phil, thats right. Once filled, if possible, do stand the basket on a steady surface for a week or two. This will allow the roots to anchor themselves into the fresh compost, before you hang it up.
