Camellia and Honeysuckle

Posted: 04/06/2014 at 23:02

It has done this for a few years now Dave and I never see any sign of mildew.

It is planted in Clay soil is well mulched and gets plenty of water.

Its always the new growth that gets affected then you dont tend to notice it during the growing season, apart from the odd few leaves that drop off.

Ive seen mildew in my garden and its certainly not mildew.

Organic slug control

Out in the evening after dark with a torch, a pair of scissors and a little plastic bag to dispose of them.

No chemicals involved whatsoever and seems to be the most effective method for me

Camellia and Honeysuckle

Posted: 03/06/2014 at 22:38

Both these plants have come on well. I left the Camellia alone and it has put on plenty of healthy new growth.

The Honeysuckle has grown tremendously but some of the older leaves seem to be turning black and yellow quite quickly due the black spot I think it has.

This doesnt seem to affect flowering though as its covered in flower buds at the moment

Purple/black spots on honeysuckle foliage

I would say it isnt Powdery Mildew. You would have white patches on the leaves.

The chap at the garden centre was right in suggesting Rose Clear as your honeysuckle has black spot, a disease that usually affects Roses.

Most Honeysuckle are quite vigorous so this doesnt tend to trouble them too much.

Neatness.....a swear word in the garden?

Posted: 26/05/2014 at 22:11

My garden is small enough to keep neat, although this is still time consuming.

I like to maintain some distance between plants, even if just a few cm, if only for airflow and to stop disease.

I like to see every plant reach its capabilities but sometimes its a little too much so I step in and 'tidy' them up
