Small Dahlia Tubers

Im letting them dry first then gonna wrap them up in newspaper. I'll then stick them in the cupboard under the sink in the unheated downstairs loo which can get very chilly in Winter :P

If any of the leaves have gone mushy they are not producing food for the plant so I would cut them off.

They should produce new leaves

I was wondering more than anything if they will keep over the Winter being so small.

Glad to hear that they will produce lovely plants even being that small

Hi all I dug up some Dahlia Tubers today to clear my beds. The ones I grew from seed are lovely and fat but the ones I bought as cheap bedding plants are very small.

Is it worth trying to keep any of these?

Lifting and storage of dahlias

You can do it now or wait until the frosts. Its completely up to you

The longer they are left in the ground, the better the tubers will develop

and if they are still flowering I see no reason to dig them up yet

The roots are spreading nicely through the soil which is a good sign, I cut down all the foliage and removed any bits from the soil then gave it a good mulch.

Lets hope it puts on a good show next year

But I will check to make sure the roots have started to spread from the rootball
