Dividing Lupins

Posted: 30/09/2014 at 19:03

This question is aimed at Verdun really as Ive seen him mention it a few times

I divided one of my Lupins that seemed to have got pretty big.

What I didnt realise is that they have a tap root, I broke this apart into 3 sections, each with its own bit of root and potted them up.

They seem to be doing ok at the moment

Is this the right way to do it?

Dig them up after the first light frost and store somewhere frost free in dry compost.

Split in Spring and pot the individual pieces up. I split mine this Spring just gone into about 4 separate plants from a large clump.

I gave 3 of those away and the 1 I kept has formed a clump just as large.

To pull up or leave alone?

Verdun I found Gaillardia fine left in the garden wet over Winter. Came back just as strong as last year.

I do intend to divide it this year though as its formed a lovely sized clump

Can you identify this plant?
