planting potatoes

Posted: 07/12/2012 at 12:27

I use potato bags. I fill them about third full of compost, lay 3 seed potatoes down. Add another third and put in 2 more then fill right up to top of bag with compost. When the first leaves appear, the compost will have settled so I top up right to the top again.

I have had great success this way. Tried for Christmas potatoes and have 2 bags full  of new potatoes waiting to be harvested for Christmas dinner.

What's the weather like in your area?

We had very heavy rain hammering on the windows over night, now it is lighter but still rain.

Driving through floods yesterday , the fields are just not draining of water, the floods had ice on them. Warmer today though, but windy.

I have just entered competition and am not a fan of MD, which suggests I will probably win one of his books

Morning All

Sorry David changed again

Just been swimming and then we went to a blind place and chose some fabric, coming to measure on Monday, may have it soon. And not as much as we thought so that's a relief to. May have a nights sleep before Christmas

Choc of the day - a banana!

Windy but dry after heavy rain last night

Will ahve to see what OH thinks about that - he knows more (well thinks he does)

Dreading going to bed tonight - every night for last 2 weeks dog gets me up yapping and barking yet there is nothing there, not sure why. sometimes I don't even get into bed befor he starts OH getting very uppety and i am just tired. Not like a child where you can cuddle them and hush them and take them to bed. It may be something to do with the security light that is at back of building behind us, but it's not a bright one. We have purpoesly not gone for a window covering at the large window because the view is good day or night but today thinking we may have to get a blind, which will have to be made for window - not off the shelf. (sigh)

you have given me such an idea Jo. I have a cloche type greenhouse it's about 1mx1mx1m I used it for broad beans last year. I could make that up and use it inside the greenhouse. It would work I think
