Why did you all start gardening?

I have just ordered DVD set of Geoff Hamilton progs - £9.50 from Amazon. Should come this week

Felt I needed his realistic approach

Agree with your philosophy there Bud.

What's the weather like in your area?

Wet, windy, dark.

Went out to take rain water reading this morning to find that the wind had blown over the pot with the rain gauge in!

Don't know what has just happened  sorry!

New Gardener . . . New House . . . What would you plant?

Posted: 31/12/2012 at 11:07

A lot of your beds/borders are rectangular, what about adding curves that would widen your beds. Planters by the door look like a great idea but you could go taller with the plants in the planters and maybe really cheerful colours. and I guess as it is so mild where you are.

That bed by your pool is very narrow, perhaps you can widen it and reflect the curves of your pool. If that is not possible then use big bold planters with big bold plants arranged to reflect the pool curves, still using the bed you have for maybe climbers. put the planters  up by the bed

I can't really say about actual plants as our climate is not the same.

What about getting hold of some good plant/garden books and some catalogues to help you.

PS swimming pool would be a dream, we just have large pools of water, waterlogged ground and floods in many places at moment. They are saying the wettest year for a hundred years!

These are fscinating stories. What an idea for a book. I just love the way gardening has rescued people in so many ways. It rescued me.

It is the joy, I think, that comes across in reminiscence of gardening adventures past.

Our bird table is weighted down, after numerous rescues, by lumps of concrete dug up from around the garden and arranged in a preamid over the legs, mind you if you think I'm going to  take a photo of that in this forget it

Just been out and removed dead leaves off strawberries I planted on Boxing Day., Thought damp, mould, best remove before too late. I had ap air of those little clip things for dead heading for Christmas. I thought at the time really useful but easily lost  - I was right, can't find them

Hi Sam, welcome. I's a relatively new member here but feels like I've been on this thread fore ever

Wind is horrible today, dog smells permanently now as he gets sooo muddy every day, but if he has a bath there is nowhere he can run about to dry.

Pots seem to have survuved so far but will have a quick look later to see any damage!

It was so lovely yesterday morning - outside pottering - seems like an age ago. Sun, Sun, Sun please
