Growingspuds for Chistmas...

Posted: 25/11/2012 at 17:34

Yes. Tried last year but didn't have a greenhouse until too late to do anything much.

Usually grow potatoes in bags in summer so am used to the concept.

Can't wait to weigh them now

Placed amazon order then realised forgotten something, when you go back can only delete items not add more - means more postage.

Going to watch original 'Miracle on 34th Street' now. Can't remember seeing this version!

Hi there

Told you all I'd give an update. Still not harvested potatoes but thought I had better check progress so put hand in a bag to check and pulled out a lovely sized Charlotte poatato. No sign of blight still. Only a few weeks to go so am now really hopeful

Salmon, Curly kale, broccoli and spuds tonite followed by stewed apple, not compost today - not enough fruit variety for that

Daughter just phoned to say they are away but have been told they can't get back into town they live in. Can they come here for night if its that bad. A friend of hers in one of cut off villages has gone into labour she says. Bed's all ready! But they are assuming they can reach us.

Fortunately they live in a flat above a shop (nothing can get wet!)

Just ordered 1st Chrissie pressies from Amazon

I thnk the first one is celandine. If you dig it up you will find small nodules thta break off to make more plants. The leaves are just beginnig to appear now in my garden. I have tried mulching, digging, poisoning!, absolutely no joy to get rid of it. Alan T says almost impossible to remove, Did an article probably in GW about worst weeds to get rid of. Article may ahve been last year not this.

Have done  a quick garden check. A couple of bulbs I planted are peeking through, sprouts are looking good,(never grown before), Pulled some curly kale and checked bag of Christmas potatoes in greenhouse only to find some decent sized ones there. Feel very pleased with myself. Should have sprouts for dinner next week i should think

Now its raining!

Bad news about the fox, next door but one ended up electrfying an enclosure.

Morning all. Lovely day. Next rain due this afternoon. Just been to caravan to move cushions, usually leave them in but caravan has damp and ewith this weather well

A village near herre had £1m. of flood defences, they were opened about 3 months ago. This is first time they have been used and they failed so village os totally flooded and main A38 as well.

Daughter lives about 25 mins from here and it sounds like her little town is cut off.

Still not as bad as Cornwall. I hope the forkers down there are fairing OK.

My garden looks green but it is just grass sticking up through squelch. Had an e-mail to say some roses are on there way. Cannot plant them, too wet but think I may be able to heel them in, into  raised veg bed that is empty. Am I right? Help!!

What's the weather like in your area?

Bright blue sky and sun. The next onslaught comes in this afternoon.

36mm rain overnight.

One village near here has £1mill flood defences opened with great hurrah about 3 months ago. Defences failed last night! All raods to where daughter lives are closed. Tries to ring her but no reply which i guess means she has managed to get out. I can't even say staying on main roads get yu through because they are flooded as well.
