No thaks Geoff, think I'll stick to paper if we still have no lighters. Oh says we have somesmall BarBQ lighters if desperate.

Ho Becks . Just bought a brilliant book for my 3 year old gt, neice - 'Father Christmas wants a wee'. It will keep her amused for hours!!

Well done for sourcing all Jess stuff. Just chocolate to go??

Oh yes - something to warm tootsies please.

Just put a fleece bag on my convuvulus cneorum. Now I have done it wish i had bought more. Have been in greenhouse, a vent opened itself so warmish in there and with OH help tied newspaper round the olive pots, fleecing the tops. Also loosely fleeced bay tree in greenhouse.

I think next year will get some to go around olives. last year I didn't cover pots but if, as they say, will be colder newspaper will have to do

OH went to buy firelighters off his list this morning. He said there were spaces for 4 sorts but no lighters. We have just about enough to last a week, Then will have to resort to paper spills I guess.

Really a sign of times - not only have they sold out of firelighters because it is getting colder, they have sold out of firelighters because people are using wood as an alternative heat source because energy is so expensive.

Definately chillng again now. tea then get washing in.

My mother used to sign up because she said they know who I am because they have my name on the letter. When I took over her affairs it took me ages to sort out what she was paying for and stopping the debits. Yes Jo you are right, vulnerable folk beware.

I had gravel as an anniversary present. Only one tonne though, Really good pressie.

I suggested a raised bed for Christmas but was poo-pooed so am buying one after Christmas as I still need one. That will make 4 beds. Argument against was about mowing grass, argument for was even more veg. We will still have loads of grass for him to mow!

I wondered Siskin as well , but my book says they are geeninsh. Will just have to wait fro them to visit.

I have just looked in my bird book at a bullfinch. It definately isn't that as the wing markings are not that prominant., but had a browse over a couple of pages and I think they may be Linnets. It says the male is brown in winter. I will have to wait until they reappear to see. Of course they may well not be.

We also have nuthatches, very amusing birds, but like you, Jean haven't seen any for a couple of weeks.

Oh has come back with cheap lard so will make a seed cake later.

Morning All

Lovely frosty day. Put washing out , not wise I know but it does get freshenedd up. Topped up bird feeders. OH is at supemarket so have asked him to buy lard. Might be cheaper to make fat blocks for birdys than buying them all the time. Any one done this?

Page 638 is still as wierd as last night!!

Pleased you've lost some boxes Jo Hard luck on gaining some

We keep a pair of binoculars handy for visiting birds. There is one I really don't know what they are, About the size of a greenfinch but rounder and a lovely soft brown colour, with a finch typ beak. Camera zoom isn't good enough for a photo I've tried. Perhaps Sants will bring me a new camera, or it might be a lilac wheelbarrow.  Will have to wait and see

Will have to cover my convovulus cneorum today. Have been putting it off as it looks so nice.

What's the weather like in your area?

Bright, frosty, beginning to clear where the SUN hits. A real coldness in the air. Just put some washing out. Topped up the bird feeders and sent OH in search of lard. I think it will be cheaper to make my own seed blocks than buying them.
