Osteopurnum - suitable soil

Posted: 27/10/2012 at 12:54

I have just seen an osteopurnum that is variegated, evergreen and has white flowers this time of year.

It is just what I need to complete the white border I have, problem is the label says acid soil. The soil here is more alkali. Has anyone expeience of growing this plant? Would it grow. A container is out of the question.

But if you look at what folk are eating on this thread you will see that mostly it is economical: soups, sausages, cooked in various ways, beef stew, chicken etc.  A lot of us have a treat day, we do, but mostly it is basic food cooked in interesting ways.

Now lets get thread back to what it was.

Tonight we are having baked salmon (treat) with tomatoes, courgette onion as a sort of ratatouille,(last of the crops) and if i have time a banana cake made with the banana that has been ripening the last of the tomatoes

Treat will be a glass of rose wine.

Drove to butchersand then , as driving, kidnapped OH and took him to local garden centre. He wasn't impressed. Probably not let me drive again!

Went on a ghost walk in Edinburgh with some TV paranormal people once. Very weird. Someone said some things brushed my leg, and my foot feels cold - she was only wearing sandles. We had to stand still and quiet while they 'recorded' ghostly noises.

What a laugh!! OH had to keep nudging me to make me behave.

Raked piles of leaves for OH to mow up. Dog thought what fun and rolled in them and put his ball in them. don't have pile of leaves any more!

Ernie's ghostly gold tops??????

When walked round my tiny estate had to break ice on water feature - it's an old tin bath with a water lily and some oxygenating weed. Water lily spent all summer in a bright orange B&Q bucket and it flowered it's socks off. Hope it flowers next year.

When my hands have warmed up - been to butcher and to buy some wallflowers - will be out in the cold probably - now- raking leaves.

What's the weather like in your area?

Malvern Hills. Cold and frosty morning with bright sun. Wonderful crisp gardening sort of day.  Just broken ice on my tin bath water feature. Come in to put warmer coat on!

When I was selling books I went onto Amamzon to do it. I found a 1982 Good Beer Guide, put it on Amazon as a joke and sold it for £15!

Would recommend anyone with books to look before you sell. Some are only for charity shop, but unless you check you never know!
