Im a strictly addict and very glad Darcy will be a judge. Anyone watch Paul O'grady last night? Find staying awake after 9 oclock rather hard so dont really watch anything too late i knoe i miss alot but then i would fall asleep and not know whats going on anyway. Really hoping  i can stay awake long enough to watch Downton on Sunday.

What's the weather like in your area?

Almost fighting fit but off to the Drs to make sure. Had a fantastic day at Wisley there was a flower show on so ended up buying a few more bulbs and dare i say it christmas presents.I also bought a enviromentally friendly slug pellets. They are made from sheeps wool and so far so goog hostas are already looking better. Have been told we can go back in the sea as the powers that be have said its now safe dont think i will be doing it or eating any fish caught off the coast. Another sunny day and not quite so hot so working in the garden is easier. Think rain is expected this evening so no watering .

What a strange season

I have so many runner beans i dont know what to do with them all.Already have a freezer full and pass them onto the rest of the family. Reckon i will look like one before the season is out. Courgettes are pretty slow and dug up the butternut squash as there was no way they would grow and ripen. Theres always next year which will come along with its own set of problems i expect.

I bought the seed trays in Wyevales, they are a thicker plastic and then i use the inserts when seedlings get big enough. I did grow Busy lizzies this year and luckily they were ok, my petunias thought they were sun flowers and just kept growing taller and taller even though i pinched the tops out.I love lobelia so always grow masses of it.

Can anyone recommend a good make of greenhouse pls?

The greenhouse i bought cost around £750. Excellent value. Our friends and neighbours helped to put it up and we ended up having a party in the evening.Greenhouse people quite often have offers. Buy the biggest you can fit and afford. No regrets buying it, all seeds got off tom a flying start and a bumper crop of tomatoes, cucmbers and chillies.

Can anyone recommend a good make of greenhouse pls?

I bought a greenhouse last year from the greenhousepeople.co.uk Not one made from cedar but very sturdy and o lot less costly. I have a bench down one side a path in the middle and then its bare earth with grow bags on. Its been wonderful, gave a good start to all my seedlings and is now full of chillies, tomatoes and cucumbers.

Garlic bulblets

Have never seen that before but you could always plant them and see what comes up. November is the time for planting garlic and onions. My husband is a chilli lover and cant go a day without eating them. The greenhouse is full of them and hoping i can save some over the winter. He has tried and tried to get me to eat them but i really dont like them i just grow them.

I use the sturdier plastic trays and as you say mollycatshirley easy to clean and sterilise and store.

Talkback: Growing runner beans

My freezer is full with runner beans and there is still more to pick. Its certainly been (ha ha) a good year fot them. Have no more than a handful of french beans but that maybe because i planted borlotti beans instead, my fault. The rain gave them a good start and saved my back but not trailng backwards and forwards to water tank at allotment. It will be lovely to be eating them all through the winter.

What a strange season

I have just taken last winters pansies out they have flowered all summer. There were a sweetpea pansy so they had long stalks which made a change. Golden rod has gone berserk its now about 8 foot tall, but the bees and hoverflies love it. Still getting strawberries from the allotment and the freezer is full to bursting with runner beans. Its been a strange year and i expect next year will bring its own set of problems. i enjoy the forum as you chat away with like minded people and nobody looks bored when you mention yet another plant.
