Weeds in my compost

Posted: 18/09/2012 at 16:19

Sorted out compost heap on allotment today and found a beautiful slow worm. I put him somewhere safe whilst turning it over. I have to put everything in the heap at allotment as there is no other way of getting rid. I cut brambles up small and bash any woody stems. We used to have bins to take away hard rubbish ( old bits of carpet, wood etc) but people were putting their weeds and household rubbish ih them so they got taken away. We are allowed to haeve a bonfire once a year but then storing the rubbish for a year is a problem. At the moment the powers that be are thinking of going on to self management as the council want to get rid of the responsibility. Watch this space..........

Thankyou for all your replies, Have had no frogs or mice in this week. They never kill them, just like to let them go and chase them round the house. Not even a tin of tune will deter them, the 2 youngest cats Ellie and Lennie will still go to the place they last saw them even atfer i had rescued the creature hours before. Lennie did bring in an arguementative mouse, it stood up on its back legs and squealed at him. One very astonished cat.

Wasnt Benny on Paul Ogradys show gorgeous, wish the show was longer than half an hour. Went to Brighton with my daughter on Friday and its taken me this long to recover. Can you get jet lag going to a neighbouring town?? Managed to clear out the greenhouse disturbing a lot of spiders at the same time. I think your chickens are wonderful if i had the space i would have some. I do have some living next door and one of my cats does enjoy winding them up. Have you ever heard anything so absurd as a sharing bag of chocolate?

Men just dont have the stamina. The husband helped our neighbours put stuff through the shredder on Saturday still complaining of aching. Id offer him my back thats full of metal and arthritis but dont think i could cope with the moaning. There was a flower show on at Wisley so more oppurtunities to spend money.

I have  a wildlife pond in my garden and have lots of lovely frogs. I also have 3 cats, 2 of which like to catch them, bring them indoors and then let them go. Im not sqeemish but my daughter has said that you shoudldnt touch the frog with bare hands as it hurts them. After chasing around a frog with an envelope does anyone know the rights and wrongs of it. Just off to catch a mouse that Ellie cat has brought in

runner beans

I have a freezer full of beans and no room for anymore and i think if we eat anymore we will end up looking like one or turning into a very good runner!!!!!!!! Hadnt realised you could dry them so will give that a go. One of the lads at the allotment is trying to talk me into entering some of the competitions at next years show. I say lads they are well into their 80's.

Weeds in my compost

At the allotment we have to put all weeds in the compost bin. I leave bindweed out in the sun to dry up completely and then put in a black sack so they can rot down separately. At home all weeds go in compost bags that are collected by the dustmen. They cost 60p each and all go to a huge heap where they are all mixed up and then you can buy it back. Not done that one yet but people say its quite good.

I think Burgon and Ball have wooden seed trays. I remember seeing them at Chelsea but couldnt remember the name until i looked it up.

What's the weather like in your area?

More pills from the Dr but the old tum is feeling a lot better thankyou. My hostas have little woolly coats around them and are already looking better. No rain yet but it is definately cooler as my feet are cold. Time to get the socks out i think. Swimming at the hydro pool tomorrow and off to Brighton on friday. My daughter starts at uni on 24th and the equipment list is a mile long. Luckily the college is local so no accomodation to be found. Roll on the debt!!!!!!!!!
