Posted: 25/08/2012 at 16:52

Ive bought bulbs from wilkinsons, not a huge selection but mostly good quality and no postage. Only problem i have now is where to put them all, think i will dig up a bit more lawn so i can have bigger flower beds.

Weed suppressing membranes for allotment paths

Posted: 25/08/2012 at 16:45

I have  put in raised beds so i dont have to dig so much on my allotment plot. used a double layer or weed supressing membrane topped with bark chippings. Luckily at my allotment we get van loads of them. Need toppping up from time to time and i do get the occasional weed but a good blast of weed killer sorts it out. Certainly saves my back. Lady next to me swears by carpet and gets odds and ends from the carpet shop, the bits they were going to throw away.

Went to the allotment holders show on saturday. It was brilliant so many people attended and the refreshment stall did a roaring trade in homemade cakes and teas, i was in charge of the cakes so luckt there was any left to sell. Worthing weather today is a bit overcast at the mo but the sun is trying to come out. Will get the ironing done before it gets too hot then i will potter in the garden.

In Worthing the council come along once in a blue moon to cut the verges and then leave all the grass all over the place. Then along come the chaps with the blowers who get it al onto a pile waiting ror the wind to blow it all over the place. I dont have a grass verge outside but if i did i would mow it myself.

Star Jasmine (Trachelospermum jasminoides)

Had similar problems with mine earlier in the year. Gave it a trim, fed it and hoped for the best. Its now lovely. Its on a west facing fence and gets the sun most of the day. My neighbours like it too as it is now grown over the fence. I love the perfume from the flowers.

I try and mix half green stuff to half dryish and then give it a good mix up. I put torn up egg boxes and cardboard which really helps.
