Talkback: How to grow sweet peas

Posted: 05/10/2015 at 16:04
Instead of loo roll centres, I use kitchen roll which are longer and stand them in a 2litre ice-cream box or similar to keep them upright. I use a 50/50 mixture of multi-purpose and John Innis No2 compost and leave them in the unheated greenhouse over the winter. Pinching out after 3 prs of leaves gives lots of stems and more flowers. One that I really like to grow is 'Our Harry'.

Californian Lilac Ceanothus help required

Posted: 09/01/2013 at 16:50

I regularly cut back my neighbour's 10ft Ceanothus where it overhangs the fence and she says it looks better on my side than hers! Wait until after flowering, as neither you nor your neighbour want to miss the short period of beauty, then cut back by half about a third of the stems each year for the next 3 years. Good luck!
