Topiary Tips

Hello,

I've got two rather scruffy box hedges on the corners of my vegetable patch and thought that I should make them into something. I've decided that one of them can be made into a bird, but I'm not sure what the other should be. Does anyone have any suggestions? Also, does anyone have any tips to help me create a good looking piece of Topiary?

Many Thanks

Thank you for all of your comments. After posting this today I've learnt a lot about a whole range of British birds, so I've got a lot more than an identification out of this post!

Thanks you all for your suggestions it could well have been a Red Kite. Whilst following one of the links I noticed a bird called the Marsh Harrier - could it be this?

We get a lot of red kites around here (I'm in Hertfordshire) and I'm pretty sure that it didn't have a forked tail.

I was looking out into the field behind my garden this morning and noticed a particularly large bird. It had brown feathers on its body with white patches. It is about the size of two magpies (that's the best and most accurate measurement I can make, sorry). Can anyone help me to identify it please?
