Hi all, may I ask how to oversow? I assume you mean scatter grass seed but what do I have to do to prepare the bed? Can I just throw seed down after scarifying or do I have to put a soil base down to allow it to 'take'? Thanks
I have had a terrible problem with white powdery mildew on my Phlox this year, any idea how to avoid it for next year please? Also, can it spread to nearby plants? as a neighbouring Rose seems to look like it may have it also.
Sorry, I forgot to mention it was only planted last year, so not sure if that makes it easier move?
My Potentilla is currently flowering and looking lovely but I have noticed it is a being a bit overwhelmed by a nearby Nandina. I am guessing now is not a good time to move it, when if at all, should I attempt to find it a bigger spot? Thanks
Hi Lynn, if it is similar to Toprose (which I think it is) then you just sprinkle 28g (1oz) or 1 handful around the base of the plant and 'tickle' in after the first flush of flowers. Hope this helps.
Thanks for replies, so to clarify, do I nip the top bits off of all of the plants regardless as to whether they have a bud on? and if so how much should I nip off, because as you say, some of them are getting quite tall.
Obelixx, so glad you mentioned that because I recently saw a beautiful sort of 'apple blossom' looking type (white and pink) and was going to ask if anyone knew what it was! If I were to acquire seeds from it would the plants be same the colour ? (sorry if that's a daft question)
Hi, I have planted lots of Cosmos seeds and some are beginning to bud but are very tall and leggy. Do I need to nip off the first few buds to encourage them to bush out?
My lawn is covered in red ant patches, this year seems worse than ever. Is it because of all the rain? How do I get rid of them as it is looking messy particularly when trying to mow.
Any ideas folks?
