I bought one of these last year but it seems to have now gone green. Do I need to do anything or will it be more colourful later in the year?

Getting paving slabs cut to measure

If there are not too many slabs, have a look for a local stone mason. Or if you are very cheeky do what I did once (when I only needed a couple done) I asked the guys that do headstones and the like for funerals and they did it for me!

Sowing seeds in seed tray

I have purchased  some mini cold frames to sow seeds and was wondering what compost to use. What works best for you? and any useful tips would be appreciated ie, watering, light etc. Thanks

Do all Roses need pruning?

Do I need to prune all roses including patio and small varieties? and should I feed after pruning?

Bad knees

Posted: 18/02/2017 at 09:56

Thank you so much for raising this issue. I, like so many of you, have O.A in one knee and have recently found it increasingly difficult getting up and down. I have always gardened on my knees and this is going to be my first year when I don't think I will be physically able to 'get stuck in' and I must say it is sad for me. I have never quite mastered hoeing  ( I guess I am not doing properly)

This is going to be a new challenge as I am having to make changes in other areas such as replacing heavy pots with plastic ones etc.and generally trying to make a low maintenance garden. These are all signs for me of getting older unfortunately and having to learn to adapt which as I am sure you will agree is not easy when you have always been independent and not good at asking for help. Well onwards and upwards as they say.

I have a few bags of stable manure left over from last winter, will it still be ok to use? if so, can I use it as a mulch? Many thanks.
