Thanks David, your 'Garnet' is beautiful and certainly seems very happy in its location. Do you give it any special feed?

David K, thankyou so much for the lovely photos, I must say your Acers look very impressive. May I ask what varieties/how old they are and if you have them in any particular aspect? I only ask because one seems quite happy in an open site whereas the other is more protected in a cornered site. If I have half the success of yours I will be very happy.

When and what to feed?

Apologies, but I always get totally bamboozled by all the different plant foods available and when to use them. As I understand it there are some that stimulate healthy foliage and some that stimulate flowering. There are also times when people advise that you should give something a feed when it has been moved or been cut back. I often scatter c.m pellets around the garden during spring, but now I have been led to believe that this might be helping produce good foliage but maybe deferring flowering!! I am soooo confused. You help would be very much appreciated on this matter.

Thanks everyone for your input on this topic, I must say it has proved very interesting. Spot on Bob with the soil recommendations, that's excatly what the guy at the G.C said, only he mentioned adding grit for drainge. He said he fed his on Growmore, but he also agreed with smflyman that c.m pellets are fine.

Thanks for replying Chicky and Fairygirl.

Chicky, I always thought it was the terracotta pots that 'baked' in the heat and that plastic (I do have a nice alnate resin one) kept plants cooler, now I am confused

Thanks everyone, just a couple of questions if I may, I have now purchased an Acer.P. Shaina, and was wondering what was the best site for it. Also I have two pots available terracotta verses plastic, which would be the better choice for this please. Many thanks

I would like to move my Hebe (Wiri Mist) and wondered if anyone could advise me how easy/dificult it might be, ie, are they deep/shallow rooted? do they take kindly to being moved? etc,
