Fox Mess

Posted: 12/08/2015 at 16:23

I know a lot of posters have problems with cats, but I think mine is a fox. I am finding mess almost daily at the moment. This is quite a new occurance and happens in weird places like on an upturned plastic plant pot, pieces of crock, and bricks. They seem to be getting braver as I am finding it nearer the house on the patio. I do not believe it to be a cat as I think it is too big! Is there anything to deter them or is it going to be just like the cat issue - NEVER ending?

Salix Flamingo

Thanks NGLS, for reply.

Verdon, I am not sure I have room for it in the ground, I bought it mainly for the patio because I liked the look of it and they were on special offer   Do you not think they are good in pots? Do they need a specific soil/feed? Thanks

Just purchased my first Salix Flamingo and was wondering what size container  I should pot up to. It is currently in approx 8 inch pot. Also any tips on how to look after it would be great. Thanks

What is wrong with my Hibiscus ?

Posted: 10/08/2015 at 15:08

Still having problems with this!  Not only does it refuse to flower, it has hardly grown in height . It is green and healthy looking but only stands about 2ft high and 1ft across despite being approx nine years old. I have one in a pot that is very young and it is roughly the same size! (although also refuses to flower) and I do so love Hibiscus. What can I do to encourage flowering/growth etc.???

Planting Lavender

May I ask, is there is any particular  Lavendar you would recommend for scent/colour? only, I have noticed my neighbour's is a very dark purple compared to mine and hers is still in flower where as mine has finished. Thanks

Hope you don't mind me jumping in Beginners Luck

Short Variety Shrubs Suggestions?

Posted: 09/08/2015 at 10:45

Thank you Verdon for your very detailed reply, the area gets the sun first thing in the morning, I am thinking no higher than about 4 ft because where they are already up on the wall they will actually be around 7ft high. I will peruse your suggestions and investigate suitability.

Thanks also to DD and Ceres, again I will investigate.

Short Variety Shrubs Suggestions?

I have a raised planting area (approx 3ft high) above a wall that I would like to fill. I would particularly like smaller varieties of shrubs because they are already up high to begin with and I have to maintain them! I was thinking maybe a Choisya, is there a short variety?  Evergreens would be my first choice because this area is at the front of the house on the drive and has a drab fence behind it which I want to avoid looking at.

Rabbit hole ?

I must admit I was thinking rat hole because my sister gets them at the front of her house and they go through the drainage pipes. You should get in touch with the local council and they will send someone out to sort it.

Should I trim back my Lavender now that it has finished flowering? I did it a few months ago and it came back lovely, thanks

Pole for washing line

Barry Island, thank you for going to so much trouble to source the information and post links, I agree this does look like a good idea.

Runnybreak, I have no problem with your idea as long as the final height (when sunken) is still 2.4 metres. Could you confirm this please? as I assumed it started at 2.4 then got sunken by at least 40cm  Thanks
