Thanks to everyone for sharing your amazing efforts  .It is not only great viewing the gallery, it also is very inspirational and gives us ideas of what to buy. Amongst other things I too fancy the Clematis Avalanche.

Painting garden ornaments

Thanks for replies everyone.  Obelixx, I think I must have used an oil based varnish which would account for the yellowing. I will try your PVA method  and use an acrylic varnish. You are also right about the limited colours available with masonry paints.

Painting garden ornaments

I have a few terracota and concrete ornaments in the garden and have previously used acrylics and masonry paints to decorate them but find that they can often wash/peel off by the following year. Has anyone got any good tips for painting outdoor figures which lasts please/? I have tried using varnish before but they went a horrible yellow colour   Thanks

Soil improvement around Acer

Posted: 19/04/2015 at 18:09

I would like to improve the soil around my Japanese Acer. It is in the ground but some of the roots are above soil level. I would like to build up the soil around it and give it some nutrition. What would be best for this please?

Bought a 'Daphne Eternal Fragrance' yesterday, it was advertised as a 'new' variety, just wondered if anyone has one of these and how fast they grow etc?

I got carried away at GC yesterday and decided I would 'have a go' at tomatoes and peppers!  I have 'Supersweet 100' and 'Sungold' tom's and 'Cute Stuff' peppers, they are approx' six inches high at the moment and in three inch pots. I was informed that the tom's will not require pinching out and that I should use large pots rather than grow bags. Please could you advise; when I should start feeding;potting on; what size pots (pref' in cm's or inches please, (don't quite get litres) ; should I be putting out in the day and bringing in at night etc. I have a warm conservatory I could put them in or an unheated greenhouse.  sorry for so many questions and any similarity to questions others have asked previously. Thankyou

Moving Hibiscus

I have a young Hibiscus in (roughly) a 12 inch pot ,I bought it when it was just a twig about a year or two ago. Its roots are now coming through the bottom of the pot and my question is, is now a good time to move it? as I seem to recall Hibiscus being very unforgiving. I only have one other (in the ground) which has only flowered once in several years  any advise on encouraging flowering would be appreciated. Thanks

Plastic Shed Base

Thankyou all for your replies. Sounds easy enough   I will investigate further. I already have a base laid with slabs and gravel where I am replacing an old  greenhouse do you think this would be ok to lay onto? Any suggestions where to purchase plastic grid system would also be useful . Thanks
