Dwarf runner beans

Posted: 03/05/2017 at 17:03

Sorry, me again. I have temporarily potted my beans (smallish pots for now) but they are getting very tall and looking a bit limp. I have put some small supports in but I am not sure if I am watering too much/too little. I am just trying to keep them moist, is this correct please?

Stinking shrub

Hi Val, it's probably a Viburnum as 'Mowtastic' says and the smell is from the plant being attacked by Viburnam beetle I know because my neighbour has one and every year when it is under attack it smells like dog mess !

Well done everyone, what beautiful specimens. I can't believe you all have so much going on in your gardens at this time of year.

Ladybird, please could you tell me which Choisya that is in your picture? it looks lovely and the fact that you said it was fragrant makes me want one.

Lawn edging

Wow, after watching garden rescue I was in awe of the man with the 'best kept lawn' and it got me wondering what you lovely people use to keep your edges neat. I notice a lot of people still prefer to do it manually as opposed to 'strimmers' and the like. Any particular tools you can't live without?

Sorry, more questions!

I think I will put them into individual small pots for now. Is it ok to use the Growsure vegetable compost that I purchased for later? Do beans require pinching out like tomatoes? only I have noticed something that resembles a flower bud . At what point does feeding commence? Many thanks

Hi Raisingirl, thanks for reply, on closer inspection there only 3 plants in the strip which are in 7cm square plastic sections and the beans are already 23cm high. I am intending on putting them all in one pot.

Painting garden ornaments

There are some very good spray paints available for outdoor resin Lyn, you will be glad to know you can even get ones that resemble stone! check out 'Rust-Oleum's painter's touch' these are easily available in Wilko's, and most DIY stores. Also, the DIY stores like b &q do their own brands. There are lots of colours and 'finishes' to be had. I love playing around with these.

Yesterday I bought a strip of four dwarf runner beans (Hestia) to grow in a pot on the patio. Could someone please advise me on what size pot they need, staking, how to water/feed etc. as I am a complete veggie novice. Thanks

Feeding a Camellia

Posted: 20/04/2017 at 16:34

When is the best time to commence and stop feeding a Camellia? I have one in a pot and am never sure how to look after it properly. It never has a many flowers on it and this year they seemed smaller. I am thinking of repotting, is this a good time? Thanks

Thanks for reply Lyn, Just to clarify, these are not the very young plants, they are in 13cm pots. Should I leave them in the original pots (easier to bring in and out) for a while or should I put them in their new pots and bring in at night? Is central heating a problem? what sort of evening temps are acceptable? Sorry for so many questions
