Repotting an Orchid

Posted: 06/09/2015 at 11:28

Hi Pansy, unfortunately we have not had much sunshine lately, so I do not think that is the case. I had put it into the conservatory because it had been nice and warm in there, but all of a sudden the temperatures have dropped so I removed it from there. It was so nippy last night I was tempted to put the heating on  but cosied up under my fleece throw instead.

Repotting an Orchid

Thanks for replies, Pansy yours is lovely.

I believe I have now identified my Orchid as a phalaenopsis (saw some at the GC) I think you are all correct that re potting is not the answer, but it is definately poorly  The leaves have started to form white patches on them. I think maybe it is the sudden drop in temperature.

Repotting an Orchid

Thank you for replies, I have no idea what type it is as it was a gift (no label that I recall)

It is currently in a transparent pot but has become rather poorly looking. It dropped all its flowers. I checked the root system and to me, it did look rather crowded, but never having had an Orchid before I have no idea what they should look like.

Repotting an Orchid

Hi, I was given an Orchid in April that now needs repotting, do I really need to use the special see through pots and special soil ?

Dove Is it because the stems can get 'burnt'?

Hi, hope you don't mind me asking, but is it normal to still be feeding roses at this time of year or is it because this one is poorly? Thanks

Talkback: How to ripen late tomatoes

Could you clarify 'taking the leaves off' please does this simply mean leaving on everything but leaves?

Honeysuckle Training

Posted: 13/08/2015 at 17:45

I recently rescued a Honeysuckle Belgica from B&Q but have no idea where i am going to put it! I do not have anywhere that I can grow it up but was wondering if I could train it through something horizontally ie, inter twining through other shrubs or perhaps along a trellis? When I say I have nowhere for it to grow up I mean I have nothing of sugnificant height for it to grow up.

When to pick tomatoes?

Posted: 13/08/2015 at 17:23

I know it probably sounds like a strange question, but at what point does one 'pick' tomatoes. I am currently picking them off when rich in colour but have noticed one or two 'splitting', is this because I have left them too long and perhaps they are over-ripe? Other than that they are very tasty!

May I also mention my peppers, they are a beautiful colour but not much bigger than 2 inches, are they still edible or have I done something wrong? ie wrong size pot, not pinching etc?

Fox Mess

Posted: 12/08/2015 at 16:23

I know a lot of posters have problems with cats, but I think mine is a fox. I am finding mess almost daily at the moment. This is quite a new occurance and happens in weird places like on an upturned plastic plant pot, pieces of crock, and bricks. They seem to be getting braver as I am finding it nearer the house on the patio. I do not believe it to be a cat as I think it is too big! Is there anything to deter them or is it going to be just like the cat issue - NEVER ending?
