ok thanks for the reply. I few basil and tomato have already popped up so I don't think the gnats have destroyed everything

from what I've read online I don't think the fungus gnat is just in Africa. I'm reading people in Europe are getting them and either using pesticides or discarding the soil and starting over. Only problem is I don't want to discard my seeds as they are the only ones I've got! Does anyone know if these gnats will destroy my seedlings? Thanks

Hi, I've just planted a range of herb seeds in soil and put each one in a small container with plastic film across the top. I did this about 32hrs ago - but I just noticed what I believe to be fungus gnats in my little greenhouses. On closer inspection there are also some larvae popping up to the surface of the soil.

Are my seedlings doomed? Do you think they will still germinate and sprout? The problem is that I am based in Africa and can't get hold of new seeds so I'd rather not discard them if they still have a chance. I also don't have access to many garden supplies here so would appreciate any home remedies to help save the seeds.

Thanks for the help
