Hanging baskets

Is it safe to hang up my hanging baskets - they are taking up valuable space in my greenhouse but I don't want any frost damage.  Advice please.

Talkback: Magpies

I understand it's a charm of goldfinches; magpies come in a charm, you are right, but also a "conventicle" - charm is easier to say. I too like their antics and a "squabble" might be more apt!

Can anyone identify these?

..... having now read the subsequent blogs, maybe not!  Could be comfrey - excellent for fertiliser-making, but smelly.

Can anyone identify these?

I agree, the first is foxglove seedlings - I have hundreds in with my geraniums and I'll leave them as the bumblebees love the flowers.

Talkback: Feeding birds in summer

I feed the birds a variety of food - mixed wild bird seed, peanuts late in the season when the babies have grown up and mixed seed plus mealworms. I also give them leftovers with home made wholewheat bread mixed with cooked pasta and grated cheese which is a great favourite.
