I want to fill them with summer bedding plants . seems such a waste if i just bin then they are looking really good . i have nowhere to plant them for next year . would potting them in pots work and would you need to split or prune them they are quite large .

Will be very thankful for any tips

Hi

Being very new to the garden 2nd year i bought a dozen large trailing begonia corms 3" approx a couple of months ago . I want to plant 3 hanging baskets with them 4 in each 14" basket

I have a greenhouse with a paraffin heater .

I'm not sure when or where to start them off ? in trays or straight in the baskets ?also how deep to plant them . I have a mini greenhouse set up in the spare room with heating on as i am trying a few dfferent seeds ( fingers crossed) so i could put them in there .

Would be VERY thankful for any tips and advice , oh i live in the scottish borders .

Thanks

Mike.

greenhouse troughs

Hi geoff and sam

The greenhouse is unheated but have a paraffin heater for when i try a few seeds later in the year.

You get the odd frost at night here anytime between jan - jan BONNIE SCOTLAND .

Anyway will give the peppers and chillies a go in the troughs.

I spoke to the garden ( EXPERT ) at the local garden centre yesterday ,told me would be best to grow some tomatoes in pots in  good quality growbags and leave the troughs for other things .

Maybe just trying to get me to buy some of thier bags ?

Anyway thanks again for the tips i have enjoyed reading all the questions and answers on gardeners world over this last year ( my first )  and am sure i'll be back soon looking for more help.

Hi

I have recently put a greenhouse at the end of my drive ( lock blocks )  and have build a bench and staging.

I would like to try growing  1 or 2 things later in the year in 2 no 8' x 2' x 8"  deep approx wooden troughs.

Having NEVER had a greenhose before would like to know what to put in the troughs ?

1. what type of soil / compost

2. easy things to try gowing

Would be very thankful for any tips or advice especially on the type of compost ? to fill the troughs with .

Thanks  for all the tips and advice

I think i might try a combination of building a mini covered staging unit suggested by santaslittlehelper and get a parasene 5 heater for an extra standby thanks busy-lizzie.

Thanks again for the advice from all and i'm sure i'll have more questions soon .
