I too have had isolated problems with Chilterns seeds this year say 5% of those purchased.In fairness to Chiltern they have immediatly replaced them without any quibble.

You need to monitor the temperature in the propagator,I normally keep the lid off during the day.Also you need to watch the seed trays do not dry out.It is a matter of managing the process

Scarifier / aerators / rake

Hi Gold1locks

I have also tried the hollow tines a waste of time and energy equal failure   with with   electric wire tang scarifier.I now have a petrol scarifier heaavy duty it works OK but does not pickup well.

I often wonder whether or not it would be easier to bring in an outside lawn specialist once a year for them to use their eqipment.

I have been using spent coffee grounds as a conditioner without any detrimental effects.Recently I read that this could be harmful to seedlings and plants because coffee is a pollutant and inhibits germination and growth.

has anyone experience good or bad ?

Your plants should be O.K. with the parafin heater but make sure you provide adequate ventilation,open doors during the day when temperatures lift, obviously turning off heater.
