Greenhouse heating

Posted: 12/01/2015 at 18:29

Hi Oldtimer

I have both electric and propane in separate GH,s I use an electric fan heater for keeping temperatures above say 7oC from March onwards. The GH  is bubble wrapped.

In the other GH, uninsulated I use propane mainly on pilot light only, unless it is exceptionally cold snap then I lift to say 4oC.

Hi Mark 1963

I start my Begonia seeds on Boxing Day 26th Dec in a heated propagator.

Do I get a prize ? or perhaps bragging rites !!!

Regards and a happy New Year

Hi Clarky

I am using a de hydrator for the first season and I find the indicated temperatures and the time totally inadequate I have upped given temp from 40oC to 60 OC and time from 3hrs to 6 hours to dry herbs. It worked well.

I agree with Mark 499 on abysmal service from T & M I have given them up. I have in recent years had good service from Jersey Plants Direct.

Excessive cost of seeds

Not only do T & M hike the prices of seeds each year but they also reduce the number of seeds in each packet.Example Rosada tomatoe seeds they increased the price by 20% then reduced the number of seeds from 10 to 8, their price £4.50  bought 10 seeds from "Just Seed" for £1.50.

jersey plant direct

In the first instance I must state I have no vested interest in Jersey plants Direct.Over the past 4 years I have used them and had first class service together with plants of quality. This was after being severely let down by most of their competers.Only once have I had reason to complain which was dealt with politely and efficiently. Several garners I know echo my experience with Jersey I just hope they keep up this level of service. My fear is T & M will gain a monopoly of garden products then our pockets will suffer.
