Back from my Olympic adventure @ the "headstones", as geoff put it. ( They are known in these parts as the Callanish Standing Stones built between 2900 & 2600BC! ). Did you not see me Geoff? I was the one swinging my kilt!! Swigging on the whiskey, chasing a haggis in the background!!!

The only drama that happened was, due to the windy conditions put out two flames in lanterns, promting an emergency dash to collect a spare flame!! Why they couldn't of just relit it off someones fag??

It was an early start, around 05.00am, then off to work for the day, home now, no food in the house so tescos is calling! ..

Excitement is building!! Olympic torch is heading to our Island tommorow morning, arriving from the Shetland Islands.... Its going to be some swim trying to keep the flame alight ....  Local council have been out sprussing up the town... cutting the grass, flower baskets etc, Weather looks good, dry anyway... Relay starts @ 06.30am!!!  ... ... Thank fully Im not in it!!

Growing Sweetcorn

Hello Gilly 7, My mum has successfully  grown sweetcorn outside @ her allotment for many years. She is based in Edinburgh.  Doesn't do anything special just sticks them in the ground and hey presto!!

can you have too much night

Hello Natures grafter, Im living in the Outer Hebrides and we get about 2hours of dark in the summer months. I've never noticed this to have any detremental effect on the veggies. Just think of the extra gardening hours to be had!!!

P.s What Island are you on?

Yes Geoff living in the Outer Hebrides, the picture above is taken on the Isle of Harris.

Camping generally tends to be" dreek " in Scotland, and of course the dreaded midge!!! Was it the Isle of Skye you went to as a nipper?  You would of crossed over on a ferry in those days, now of course they have the bridge.

Thankfully Inkadog no great white sharks here, however our surfer boys dispute that!. Basking, blue & short fin sharks are more often spotted.   Miss B x

Hello Inkadog, there is no comparision with our gardens, however I also live on an Island 3hrs from mainland UK, so i too watch the ferry come and go. Our wildlife is not so unfamiliar, regular seals in the harbour, (locals have named one Tyson!!), bottle nose dolphins and not forgetting SHARKS!!!. .

I did cut my grass today, so Im in your club TDC!! Cable ties... a great idea!
