Leaves very pale green on Courgettes

My courgette plants have been out for about a week. I wish I had hung on another week really, I didn't expect that weather over the past few days.

The leaves are very pale green, they were dark green when they were in the cold frame. Could it be that they are getting waterlogged? They are in good soil with plenty of rotted compost. Or, could it be that they are cold?

Ok, I will re-plant some of them. They are about 8" apart not 6", but yes, you're right they are far too close.

Oh, I have planted mine in raised beds in my Poly tunnel they are about six " apart. At the moment they are growing well. They are planted in 7 year old rotted compost with rotted manure mixed in. Should I lift some of them out or leave them. I do feed weekly with a good tomato feed.

Slugs and Snails

I have a method of stopping them eating your plants which is 100% effective! but won't work when it's wet, so it does have a down side.

Go to a horse feed dealer and buy a sack of bran. You can get it from a supermarket but you will pay dearly for it wheras you can get a 20kg sack of it for about £7! imagine how long that would last.

Just sprinkle a good amount around your plant, I sprinkle a ring around my dahlias, when the slugs try to cross it they are dehydrated immediately and in the morning you will find loads and loads of them just sitting on the bran. When I had Koi, I used to feed the slugs to them.

You could bury some sort of guttering pipe into the ground around the edges of your beds, you would just have to scrap out the old wet bran when it rains and replace it. It really does work!!!!!!!!!

How to get rid of 'Flea beetles'?

I have an attack of flea beetles on my aubergine plants. Luckily, I have noticed it before the leaves are completely eaten.  What's the best 'organic' solution. Will garlic spray help?
