Hi I have recently moved to the island of sanday and am living right on a sheltered bay but we do get a lot of wind and some sea spray coming across the road. I would like to have a boarder around the front of the croft of some sort of low lying flowering hardy shrub what would you recomend

What if I grew them in pots and transplanted them when good and strong

PS have read http://www.lavenderenchantment.com/Growing/soilrequirements.htm and others but none talk about the salty conditions of the sand or the wind.

I am living on the island of sanday now and would like to plant a border of lavander outside the front of my croft. However because the location is a very sandy soil and is prone to the wind and sea spray from the nearby beach am concerned that these conditions will not let the lavander grow. Would I be wasting my time or does it stand a chance ?.

I'm on the Island of sanday just north of orkney, I have tried talking to some of the people I have met but most don't have a poly-tunnel so because of the regular bouts of wind stick to growing potatoes leeks cabbage carrots cauliflower broccoli. I brought with me a 60 foot tunnel so am trying to grow as I did in birmingham but indoors and had a comment about my various beans not doing well due to the amount of light so am looking for advice

can you have too much night

I have just moved to an island just above orkney and durring june there is virtually no night will this affect any of my vegetables. such as runner beans or chillies
