feeding leeks later in the year?

Posted: 30/03/2014 at 20:48

Many thanks for the replies folks.  Maybe it was just a bad year for leeks?  But as they do have a very long growing season, I may well add a bit of chicken manure pellets late on - if they aren't doing too well.  Thanks again.   Nicki 7

feeding leeks later in the year?

Hello everyone

Last year I had a miserable outcome from my leeks, which were small & spindly - despite digging in plenty of well rotted manure in the soil previous to planting them.  To ensure I get a better crop this year my question is, do I need to feed them again, later in the year?  And if so, with what kind of feed.  Many thanks for your replies

Many thanks Bob.  Will put them under a cloche for a while - though my garden isn't too waterlogged.  The soil drains really well.    Appreciate the advice.

Hi Dave

Thanks for your reply.  Don't know if they are hard or soft neck variety, but they've been in the greenhouse since November time & have started to shoot.  I don't think I can keep them in modules for much longer, as they have a really good, strong root system!  (Perhaps I should just put them out in the ground & hope for the best)?

Hello folks

I've grown my garlic this year in modules in the greenhouse, to get them started.  They are all growing away fine.  But when should I put them outside in the ground?  I live in the E. Midlands area.  Answers much appreciated.

Thanks for the replies folks.  Well, I think I will try to grow it in a very large pot.  I really like the lovely bright foliage - but it does need to be kept restricted or it sprouts up everywhere!!  And yes, it does have tiny barbs on the leaves too!   Thanks again

Hello folks

I previously grew a Golden Hop to grow over an arch, but after a few years it went mad and began sprouting up all over the lawn!!  My question is, will it grow successfully in a large tub where I can keep it under control ?

Choisya Sundance- will it survive?

Thanks Fairygirl.  I've also moved pieris with success too.  But looking back, when I moved the choisya, there wasn't much soil around the roots.  So, maybe it will settle down & make growth - or it will have to come out.

Choisya Sundance- will it survive?

Many thanks for the replies.  I'll cut it back a bit as suggested and also ease up on the watering.  Hopefully after about a month it will pick up.  If not I'll have to dig it out and replace it.  Shame, as it was such a lovely shrub - but in the wrong place.  Thanks again

Choisya Sundance- will it survive?

Hello folks

I helped a friend move a beautiful big yellow Choisya Sundance from one spot in her garden to another in March this year.  Since transplanting, despite lots of watering, it's still looking very sad & unhappy with its leaves drooping.  Will it survive or is it a case of yanking it out & replacing it with another one from the garden centre?  I feel really guilty about suggesting moving it!.   All & any advice appreciated
