onion curl problem

Posted: 08/06/2017 at 10:08

Hi Bob the Gardener

Many thanks for the info on the above problem.  Seems like I should stop growing alliums of any sort, unless I provide special prevention against these flies, moths etc first.  I've learned something new here.

Thanks again

onion curl problem

Hello folks

Some of the onions on my plot have developed a twisted, curly stem.  I assume this is some kind of problem in the base of the onion itself?  Will the resulting onions still be edible?

Many thanks for your replies

Many thanks for the replies - and I have decided to take your advice..  I did pick them up this morning, (there were literally hundreds!) and have disposed of them in the garden bin.  Thanks again

Potato apples

Hi Everyone

I have literally hundreds of potato apples, which have developed on my Desiree potato tops and dropped off onto the area.  I'm aware that they are poisonous, but do you think it would be okay to just dig them into the ground to rot, as compost for next years veg?  There are so many, there's no way I can pick them all up!

Many thanks for replies and advice.

fallen rotting apples

Hello Folks

I've just dug out my runner bean trench for next years crop and dumped loads of rotting, fallen apples into it (leaving some for the birds over the winter period), along with manure from the compost heap, before filling it in again to rot down.  I'm hoping that the high liquid content of the decomposing apples will benefit the beans when planted next year.  Though I am now left wondering if the acid content of the apples will be detrimental to the growth of the runner beans.  Any thoughts or comments on the matter?  Thanks

Thank you all very much for your replies.   Spirea  'Bridal Wreath it is then.  (So much for my 'wedding bouquet'  thoughts)!   Well, now I know what to look for at the garden centre.  Thanks again

Hello folks

Can anyone help me with the proper name of the Spirea shrub which, I believe,  is generally called 'wedding bouquet' (or something like that)?  It flowers with long, arching white flowers in the spring.  Many thanks for replies

callistemon propogation

Hi everyone.

Does anyone know how I would go about propagating a callistemon please.  My neighbour has a lovely specimen and said I can have a cutting,  I've searched everywhere but can't seem to find any info on the subject!  Replies very much appreciated.  Thanks
