Saving bean seeds...

Posted: 06/10/2013 at 20:49

I feel so much satifaction when I grow something from a seed that I have saved....it makes me feel less reliant on the big seed companies and gives me a glow of 'smugness' when I harvest my vegetables the next year lol

Watercress

I sow watercress seeds in a large black post filled with compost and I get a good crop each year.  You can see it growing here (about half way down the page:  http://notjustgreenfingers.wordpress.com/2013/06/24/how-to-grow-watercress-and-a-watercress-leek-potato-soup/

I will/I won't grow that again

One thing I won't grow again is a 'Shark Fin Melon'.  Firstly it was a monster and destroyed it's supports and grew over everything in it's way and secondly it just didn't taste of anything lol...we live and learn, which is the fun of gardening.

Thought I would say "hello".  I have four allotments and I am passionate about growing vegetables and helping to show people how to also 'grow their own'

Talkback: The joy of compost

Hi there. I am afraid I am a really lazy composter! I put things into my black dalek compost bins and leave them alone until they are ready and then I use them. It doesn't make compost quickly like Montys does, but it saves a lot of time ...and as a busy mother with four plots, I haven't got much time lol

Acca sellowiana, what a beautiful plant. I've never heard of it before.
