A few things

I seem to be having problems with threads i have posted in the Forums section peeps, hence why this post will be a long one sorry.

No1: I have to Fatsia Japonica both in a North East facing garden on the North West facing wall. Last year one was moved (the older one), although both seem to be struggling at this time of year that one seems to of slowed down its growth since being moved and doesnt look as healthy with new growth. Does anybody have any suggestions on trying to re-vitalise this lovely plant?

No2: It is still to cold where i live, so grass cutting hasnt commenced. However i laid new lawn last year, making the mistake i think of sieving the ground to much and removing to many small pebbles/stones. After a few months of vigourous growth i started noticing patches and areas getting slightly waterlogged. Over winter i have also noticed worm cast. I have started to aireate the ground and fill the holes with sand but due to the cold not started to cut or scarify it. Is this my only option?

In Spring, should i cut back some of the old growth to encourage the plant also?

Hi fellow gardeners,

Im after an answer to a Japonica problem, i have one that was re-planted, and it isnt growing as well as a younger one. Is this due to re-planting or lack of nutrients, or because it has more stems.? Should i cut it back or remove the younger stems to promote growth?

Also will an ever green Hedera, survive in an ericaceous soil?

Thankyou Chris,

Did you have parts that had died off though, like where they where joined etc etc. Did the lawn feed help that grow back naturally or did you put more seed down?

If you throw them in your council garden waste bin, the recycling process should be ok, due to the way they make compost out of garden waste, however, in your own composting bin, you havent the industrial size of being able to do this Sandyr.

Advice on repotting my tomato plants please.

Normal compost should be fine, and tomorite as already suggested, and if you can plant marigolds with them, apparently they keep the bugs away,(didnt work for me) however gardening is all trial and error, oh and dont use manure lol!

New lawn

Hi,

I would email the experts but hopefully my gardening colleagues can solve this issue.

I laid a new lawn over 2 months ago, and followed all the rules, not standing on it for the required time, watering it for a full month etc etc. On my first cut i took it to a height of 30cm, the second and third 20cm. Even though it looks like it is flourishing, on cutting it, i notice that there are patches where it has died of, which is unsightly to say the least. I have no idea why this has happened, is it the soil which i filtered so it was extremely fine, do i need to just add lawn feed to encourage growth, aireate the soil or is it because of the amount of rain we have had.?
