Sounds like you'r enjoying the birdlife Hippyness, like you we have moved from the city to (out in the sticks) and see a larger varieties of our feathered friends. When in the City I use to fill up a stainless steel meat carver dish with drinking water, it was so large that the birds could have a bath if they wished.

Myself I would wait until spring, then cut out or trim the dead branches. When new growth appears take cuttings and dip in some rooting compound place in a small pot and away you go. As Busy-Lizzie says you could try your luck this time of year.

I made up some garden tubs with this display three year,s back. As you say keep deadheading the daisy,s and they last for weeks.

HI there, I sent a comment the other month saying how I had grown 2 dozen alliums from seeds I found in the gardens of Queen Victoria,s Osbourn House while on honymoon there. I have a large tub with 14 Agapanthus which I grew from seed five years ago. What a wonderful sight they are when in full bloom on a summer day. With regards to Ren I myself have about an inch of WOOD CHIP over my bulbs and they survived last winters frosts. Kind Regards Oldgreenfingers.

Its nice to refresh myself with your tips on runner beans. This year Im sowing them around my dads garden as he has a 20ft metal pipe frame which always gives us a great crop.

I enjoyed Sara Raven's video on Allium bulbs, I have grown some of the ones she likes best with seeds one picked up while on Honeymoon, off the ground (windfall). One would be "NOT AMUSED" . O what a wonderfull sight they make four years on. KEEP ON DIGGING me old muckers
