Flea beetles

Posted: 06/05/2013 at 14:06

Hi all!

I think I have flea beetles munching on an unidentified small tree in my garden. Can anyone advise me whether this needs action, or should I live and let live?! The mystery tree is next to blackcurrants and gooseberries.

Thanks

This is great advice! I have grown some from plug plants earlier and I am trying to work out where to plant them.

Thanks for all that information everyone! Has anyone used nematodes, and if so, did it work?

Thanks!

Hi all! I have just emptied a trough and found many vine weevil grubs in it. I have been checking the soil and squishing any grubs I found this afternoon (quite theraputic!). It seems a shame to throw away the soil and I was planning on spreading it on an empty bed that won't be planted up till the end of May. Is this a great way to spread the problem around my garden, or are they likely to be eaten or die before I use the soil again?

Many thanks

Sweetpeas

Morning all! I am taking your advice and cutting my sweetpeas back to about the fourth pair of leaves today as they are looking a little straggly. Would you wait till new, bushy growth is seen before planting out or will they be ok if I get on and plant them out today straight after pinching out?

Thanks

Pruning old box hedge

Posted: 16/12/2012 at 12:46

Hi all!

I have a box hedge that was originally trained into balls, but sadly has been left without pruning for about two years. Is it still possible to prune them back to the ball structure, and if so when should I attempt it?

Thanks

Oh dear - sounds like it's not worth trying with these and I'll put it down to experience! Thank you Busy-Lizzie

We bought some reject winter pansies yesterday to nurse back to health and then plant out, but realised once we had got them home that the leaves have small black spots on them. Does anyone know if this is a show-stopper or if it is cosmetic only?
